X Ball™ Commissioner

We are pleased to announce that Steve Morris will continue working with the Millennium Series as the X Ball™ Commissioner. He will be responsible for the smooth running of the EXL and Open X Ball™ Fields. Steve is also recruiting and training the Pro Judges for the X Ball™ fields. If you are interested in joining the judging staff please contact steve@millennium-series.com

Format

Both the EXL and the Open X Ball™ will run with a double elimination format. The EXL will use exactly the same rules as the NXL whilst the Open X Ball™ division will use similar rules but the game time will be reduced to two 20 minute halves.

Prizes

All entry fees from the EXL will get returned in prize money. €8,000 will go towards the finals at the World Cup in Orlando leaving €10,000 in prizes at each event.

1st Place €5,000

2nd Place €3,000

3rd Place €2,000

For every Open X Ball™ event, €500 from each team’s entry fee will be pooled for the prize purse (up to a maximum of €8,000).

EXL Rankings

Points will be awarded through-out the season based on results according to the following:

1st Place = 10 Points, 2nd = 8 Points, 3rd = 6 Points, 4th = 5 Points, 5th = 4 Points, 6th = 3 Points, 7th = 2 Points, 8th = 1 Point.

The 4 top-ranking teams at the end of the EXL season will go to the World Cup in Orland, Florida in October, to compete against the top 4 NXL teams in the World X Ball™ Championship.

Division 1 Rankings

The American Division 1 X Ball™ will be sanctioning the European Open X Ball™ results to count towards their rankings. The series will take the best 5 results with up-to 2 events counting from European Events.

Qualification for EXL 2005

It is our intention based on feed-back from teams to expand the EXL for 2005. The eight 2004 EXL teams will automatically be offered a place if they play all four of the events and the World Cup if they qualify. The expanded team places will be offered to teams based on their results from 2004. We will take the best 2 results from Open X Ball™ and the best 2 results from Pro 7-Man. The ranking for Division 1 teams will be determined by taking the best 2 results, at a value of 80%, from 7-Man Division 1 events and the best 2 results from Open X Ball™.

I think it's crap that the've decided to run it as double elimination :(

Thats great considering the NXL get 4-5 games per event...

That's true, and the weaker teams could end up with less play time when they actually need more of it! Spectator wise you only know the first round games, which kind of sucks if you want to watch your favorite team's games.

I think Nick's suggestion was very good.

Hey guys

Just think about it for a moment

My first thought was - £1000 per team - say £100 per player for 2 games of ball!! Thats expensive for that isnt it??

But actually it works out quite well when you break it down properly.

In a 7 man format you are guaranteed 10 games at 7 minutes a game - thats 70 minutes of paintball. But that isnt guaranteed is it? And remember its costing each team around £800.

Most games finish short of the distance so lets say that most finish within 5 minutes - thats 50 minutes of paintball.

This 50 minutes is not guaranteed of course - you have a bad weekend and you're on to 20 minutes or less!!

With the X-Ball double elimination and 20 minutes each half then (given 2, 5 man teams) each player is GUARANTEED 40 minutes of potential balling. Remember that in X-Ball the clock stops when a flag is hung meaning that in each 40min match there is 40 minutes of play.

So 2 matches of 40 minutes = 80 minutes per squad. Two 5 man teams in each squad and you get 40 minutes. This could be 14 or 15 games of ball for each player too - if the format is played properly of course. Unless you get to a 7 man Sunday afternoon club you'd never get that much!!

Sounds ok doesnt it? Does to me

The difference that really emerges is that you arent on site from 6 in the morning until 2 pm playing 4 games.

So not having to do that is a BONUS!!

And also remember that if you win a game - you get 3 games minimum!!

I'm just waiting to see if Div 1 teams will afford the paint!!!

I wasnt meaning the value side of things Marky, although i agree with what your saying.

But this has alot more to do with the NXL getting twice as many games than us as a minimum.
It's gonna be fcuking hard for us Euros to catch up with the Americans in this new format, when the're a year ahead of us AND they could be playing twice as much this year!

Tommy - I thought EXL was being run same as NXL?

Yes there are less events but everyone knew it was going to be half hearted X-Ball this year - the 7man/x-ball split meaning they are sitting well and truly on the fence.

All the teams knew this - its been a 4 event roster all along

If it wasnt, travelling to the USA to play NPPL would be a bit difficult

Its not the number of events thats in question man, its the minimum amount of games PER event.

The NXL doesnt run a double elimination format. Instead they play 4/5 different teams, with points for wins/draws, adding up to a total at the end.

I cant quite remember the details of Nicks proposal but it seemed very sound, following a simular format of the NXL with a winner being announced after every event.

I jus wanna play as much hardcore 'ball as possible, and im sure everyone else in the NXL does. If theres a way of getting us all more games without affecting the tournaments infrastructure then why not do it?

My bad Tommy

I mis read it - cos I thought that was how it was going to run
!!

I agree - double elim sucks for exl

If the eight teams are committed to all legs then it should be possible to run a league over the 4 legs

Again - I reckon it's half hearted

:(
