In 1981 an American called Bob Gursney heard from a friend about guns that shot pellets of paint to mark trees and cattle and thought they would work for an idea Bob had for a survival game.
The original game had little resemblance to paintball today, Bob had envisioned a game that tested peoples ability to survive and not just shoot at each other. The first game was played with 10 people on a huge field and the game was won by one of the players who never fired a shot.
