Because when played properly it is :)

The sup-air and x-ball scene is very much a sport, the same as say 5 a-side football. It just needs (in my opinion) more structure, control, and conformity between ruling bodies.

I don't think it will ever be a truly prime-time sport (it costs far too much for joe ordinary to get started) but with the right push and direction I think it could become a lot more popular, especially with TV watchers :)

(I don't know, this is just what people write)
People think that somehow by making it a sport, we will get more recognition from the public, get more media exposure maybe get on the olympics, get more players, and stuff will get cheaper because of these?

Robbo said that we need more players because we're missing that 'middle tier' of recballers who don't play supair. This would, I think he was saying, would make more supair players the athlete-type who play to win, not would-be recballers who play when they can, for a laugh and who don't put in as much work as they could to improve their game.

something to do with that?

To further the sport, allow more access to new players, and ultimately increase revenues. If you look around at some of the "sports" that get more air time than paintball (especially in the US) you will probably be wondering how paintball is not already classed as a sport compared to these :)

Also, why the hech is fishing called a sport???

further the sport? how? what does further the sport mean? what does it mean for me as a player? Will i and you get any benefits out of the sport being furthered?

how will being recognised as a sport allow access to more players? curling is officially a sport, i dont know anyone other than the scottish (;)) who play curling.

For many Uni clubs it'd mean a hell of alot more funding. If paintball was recognised as a sport and BUSA recognised the uni clubs would prob be looking at getting £5000+ funding a year.

Outside the sheltered world of university i have no idea. Prob just some sort of actual aknowlegement that were not playing rambo.

Aren't recognised sports subject to differing VAT levels in the UK, I don't know if that is true across the board with the rest of the world or the european union

I agree with what edd hobday said at the end of his post

It is purely for people who get the piss taken out of them for playing army,

If it's a sport they can go 'actually it's a sport' and then feel a bit cool

It is physically demanding, but that doesn't make it a 'sport'

People just say 'further the sport' what does that even mean? Break into the mainstream? There's plenty of other more attracrtive things that haven't made it into the mainstream, unsuprisingly the majority of people don't want to spend the amount of money required, get up early, throw themselves around (often in the mud!) and get shot

Personnaly i like it but as i said us paintballers are in the minority!
