Why can't we delete our own threads?

this is kinda one for the mods, but wouldn't it be better if people could delete their own threads aswell as the mods can delete it!?

no because then people can make threads willy nilly, and then when they realise people hate the thread they can delete it, whereas now, people can insult the maker until a mod intervenes
