Just a musing I had earlier, but why are the pro teams located in the south.

Shockwave, Nexus and Tigers are all southern teams, was it like that in the past as well? All of Shock apart from one are southerners. All of Nexus past and present apart from 3 and all of the Tigers are from down south as well.

Where were the Preds, Nam, Shades etc.. based?

It seems that with places like Markie C's NQ and the Fireball Gym, the paintball scene is thriving up north. There is very little down south in terms of training venues.

Anyone have any ideas?

:)

I think to be honest mate it's because they have a higher % of tournament players from the South due to location and density of sites/players, I'm sure Shades, NWC, Preds etc were all Southern Teams.....hold on, I'll pull out my PGI from 1992...skip passed paint it Tartan by Gary Weston of Highlander......nearly there.....yup.....they were all Southern Teams ;), however, if you pulled together consistant Manc Union Team and actually made it PRO, I'm sure some moulds would be broken.

Even further North than Manc.......

ITS HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE WAY

DATING BACK TO THE BANZI BANDITS WHEN LEDZ WAS DOING FIFTY DASHES AT Y.P.C(SHOWING MY AGE)
THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A NORTH/SOUTH DIVIDE.
BUT I THINK PAINTBALL HAS ADAPTED AND WITH THE LIKE'S OF KELLYS AND DARE I SAY (MANCHESTER )SHOCKWAVE.
THE NORTH HAS IMPROVED , EVEN YOU SAM MUST ADMIT THAT .
yes i agree that if teams are to progress in the sport we must train together to take on the might of the u.s.a and the central europeans.
but i think the pro tour is the way forward.
cheers angel

You may not dare:)

I never said that the north was not any good, nor that it wasn't improving. Not sure where you got that vibe from:confused:

The north seems to me to be the central hub of paintball in the UK, there seem to be more teams, more young players, and more training venues than in the south. I was merely wondering why the divide existed, thats all.

Markie and others have put a lot of work in, nothing but respect for them.:)

Completely agree - Markie, Fireball, Dishforth ETC are wicked places and are doing/going to do an amazing job for paintball up here (north of watford ;)) Granted until Fireball we played during gale force winds and sub arctic temperatures, but its not all "grim up t'north" ;)

Right, gotta walk up that steep cobbled hill lane now with mi Hovis.....

Sam, if you ever want to visit the grim North, feel free to stop in Coventry with us.

Me and Lump have spare beds and you'd be more than welcome to stay for a few beers the night before, break up the journey, lol :)

Isn't it ironic that now we seem to be getting moving, south and north, that the pro status is now locked ?

I mean, in the old days, all you had to do was call yourself 'pro' and Hey Presto, you were pro.
Most people didn't take this course because they woulda got their ass handed to them by the Preds or the Nam and the rest of the pros but some did chance their arm.

But now, we got teams oooop norf and teams darn Sarf with nowhere to go coz if they wanna go pro, they gotta enter div 1 of the Millennium and then qualify or the even harder route of going to the US and doing the self same thing in the NPPL.

Our timing sucks !!!!

We needed this breath of fresh air that is wafting thru Brit Paintball to have happened five years ago or even 3 years ago and maybes would have now had more teams in the CPL.

Still, it's good to see so many ballers getting their act together and training regularly up and down the country, I don't know if they are doing it properly but hey, it's a start and we can only get better.

As for why so many of the top teams are down south, the answer's simple .... it's coz us suvverners are soooo damned coool :)
