the essentials are a good barrel, an air system and a loader
personally i would suggest a barrel first. you could get a n2 system first, but that wont do much good with a crappy stock barrel. as far as which barrel goes it all depends on how much u have to spend. you could buy a Custom Products One-Piece barrel for $50 bucks and get a good quality barrel for cheap. but if you want something more versatile, go with an insert barrel or adjustable barrel system similar to the Freak or something.
for air system, you will find that nitrogen is a much better propellant than co2. for your needs, a simple preset tank (output is preset to 800-850psi) will be more that good enough for the spyder. personally i suggest PMI 4500psi tanks. but at this point, nearly any preset tank is high enough quality and good enough flow. but what ever u do, spend the extra money on a 4500psi system. do not settle for a 3000psi. its nice to have that extra air, and even if u cant fill to that high, its nice to have the option for later in your pballing days.
the loader is all based on your needs. if your just starting and dont have a feeding problem, use a VL200 or other non-agitated loader. if you want to be sure not to chop, pick up a Revy or Rico and that should be fine. i highly doubt you need an Evo2 or Halo B. that might be a little too much for just a spyder xtra.

well, i just threw alot of stuff at you and i hope that it all made sense to you. if you have any questions pm me or email or something. good luck

If you cant afford a N2 system, get a C02 system with an on/off valve, and a Anti-Siphon tube in it. For barrels, Freaks are good, id personally go with a boomstick, about 16 inches. Definitly a spring kit, and maybe a larger expansion chamber. A delrin bolt.
A Drop foward if you already dont have one. buy a 12volt Revolution, or a Richochet AK. Or a eVLution 2 if you plan on getting a E Frame in the future. Chek my mods.

guys, it's a SPYDER the upgrades you are suggesting are about double or triple the cost of the gun!!!!!!

i'd suggest

venturi bolt (stops ball breaks)
DYE XCEL barrel, 'bout 14" should be right
6 stage expansion chamber
high compression spring

add a half decent air system or a good CO2 system and you'll be rockin!!!

no i had those upgrades a while back, but i had some other bits as well, when i suddenly realised that i had spent more on the gun than on the mods and the marker was still not very good, i upgraded (i even had a laser sight on the damn thing!!!)

a good barrel is always first, but the options are endless. i don't see the point in spending $200+ on a hpa/n2 tank unless ur going to do tounies, but you should gat a decent drop forward, that covers the bare bare essentials, now you need to figure out what you want to do. after all, if you just want to do rec ball, you don't need an e-trigger or any anti- ball-break kit, as you probably cant shoot fast enough.just my logic.

blah,blh-blah,blah,blah

He means, you could buy a cocker AND purchase 2 upgrades for it, for the price it would cost you to buy the 10 upgrades needed to get anywhere near the performance of a cocker, on a spyder.

I think....
