When did you realise it was a sport?

€gg

This really is my face...
Like only 6 months ago my brother who dispises paintball looked at my Kingman brochure, i swiped at campaign, and saw a guy wearing red in a supair field. He said 'How dumb is that, that's crap camoflage' then I realised that people still see it as guys running around in woods shoting each other like they were rambo or something, the only way we are going to get the 'bang bang your dead' scene gone is to advertise more. Like billboards of people in the jerseys and stuff like by DYE or JT. Thus when people first hear about paintball they think, 'huh a fun sport' and not the old camo job in the woods . Just a thought is all!

Probably realised it was a sport right after my first tourney many years ago in the woods.

At that time I was pretty fit, showjumping competitively about twice a month & riding 6 days a week for at least an hour at a time, plus the obligatory ****e shovelling you get as a horse owner. I mean, we're talking serious muscles time here, & carrying about 3.5 stone less weight. I also used to do hill walking during my holidays, covering 10-12 miles of rough terrain daily. Anyway, I got home after the first tourney & gods did I ache! Plus the adrenaline rush I'd had was more than competing in a high level jumping class, where the potential for personal damage is not exactly low if you get it wrong (anyone remember the guy that used to play Superman, now paralysed for life?).

So anything that could make those fit muscles ache, give me such an adrenaline high AND take my competitive instincts to a new high along with relying on teamwork HAD to be a sport in my eyes.

When my mates brother came down for a punter-ball game with us and he was wearing a "non-camo" jersey and had an emag and all the kit.

Then started looking around the 'net and found all these sites out and thought "wow" and got hooked :)

By early 1994 all I had done was scenario games in terms of paintball events, and honestly they didn't do it for me. I had a new job in Orlando, and the game took a back-seat for a year or so. After a while I started buying magazines again, and saw how there was supposedly some big tour-na-ment in Kissimmee in late October, 1995. I made plans to check it out, and I was blown away by the sight. I hung out all week long, and every night as I tried to sleep the sounds of Mag's and Cockers were still ringing in my head. Even at this point I didn't recognize it as a sport. I just didn't think of it that way.
No BJ intended, but my recognition that this was truly a sport occurred when I read my first few issues of PGI in early 1996.

Well

Thankfully Mr Big had the front part of his brain removed after the third girl's schoool incident, but he is jumping about and clapping (the hands are even connecting every 7th or 8th time), and Joe's grin is so wide you can see every last inch of his cleft pallet, so the guys are obviously pretty pleased.

Robbo obviously has no ego, so it's had zero effect on him...
