Most professional sports teams have names on the back of their jerseys, so I don't think it takes away from looking like a team. If anything it makes us look more like a 'real' sport.
But to each his own. If you don't want individual names on the back of your jerseys, don't put 'em on.

with everybody wearing the same outfits it only makes sense to have names on the back, or nicknames otherwise it'd be a paint to organize any kind of move between front and back players it'd go a lot like walk-on rec ball

Not that many teams (except for pro) gets the jerseys for free, but have to pay for them... Names makes it much more easy to reckognize YOUR equipment at the end of the day!!
In addition it often looks very nice...
BTW The feeling like a team doesn't come from wearing identic jerseys - it comes from spending a lot of time with your team and having fun playing together...

Having your name on the back does break down barriers and makes players more approachable off the field.
The main problem a lot of teams have is that the squad isn't constant and replacing shirts everytime a player leaves isn't cost effective,

Guys, are you mad. The only reason you have your name on the back is to make sure every fker knows you're the govnor. When I've wiped the **** out of your team, I want you to remember it was ME that did you up, not the 'blah blahs'.
It's all about heroes, and you can't have anonymous heroes now can you sweethearts.

I think having names on the back of shirts is a good idea because it wil help move the sport to the mainstream with younger people having "sport stars" like the beckhams and whatever for football.
I feel there no reason why this can not be the case with paintball with so many good playing in the Uk that younger and less experianced player can look up to.
