after a recent issue ive had(which is now resolved) it made me wonder what should happen.

i was recently part of a small issue with buying a product off these forums. which just so happened got delivered to the wrong address thus leaving me out of pocket and out of a product. now although this particular situation is now resolved, i was wondering what peoples thoughts were on such a matter.

should the seller:
  • refund the money untill the issue is resolved with the delivery company?
  • should the seller leave it to the buyer to sort out?
what are your thoughts on such matters a matter?

Probably ask the seller to ensure a 'proof of postage' is taken and confirm the address with them I guess.
Put insurance on the item?
Hire the Terminator to track it down for you as they never stop!

was just a thought thats all. some would argue that its out of their hands once the item has been posted. but as a seller is it not their responsibility to ensure its gets to your hands?

(the above is not an example of what happened in my case)

I when selling will state what method I'll be shipping by, for cheaper items that'll usually be 1st class standard. Now first class standard has no tracking or insurance so if the buyer agrees to this shipping method they are taking a chance.

If in the unlikely event the item gets lost in the mail, i'd ussually refund half the cost of the item.

personally, I think thats fair.

I've always been of the belief that it is the sellers responsibility to get the goods to the buyer, having entered in to a contract to supply. As such, giving a reasonable time for re-delivery etc. I would refund if goods never arrived.

With standard post you can still get proof of postage, and claim from the Post Office for non-delivery, however it is a pain in the arse to do so. Then, in cases where there is no proof of delivery, you always have the chance that the buyer is dishonest and received the goods but is looking for a refund too.

Send everything special delivery

Note
As far as the post office is concerned it is the posters responsibility to ensure that the package is sent by the most appropriate means.
If you come to some arrangement with the buyer to use an inferior method then you are both to both to blame.

Well, I have never really been one to do too much selling of items
however, I ALWAYS used a tracked service with insurance.

That would be RM "Signed For" which now costs about 70p-£1 on top of postage costs, which was always first Class, and covers the parcel up to £32, but you have to write that value on the back or tell them that value when you post it.

Or, RM "Special Delivery" which is standard to £500 and you can add extra insurance up to £2000 I think.

I never had a problem.

I also used Parcel Force as well on occasion, for very large or heavy items.

I always provided the buyer (on the rare occasion that I sold anything  with the tracking number and method of delivery, as soon as I had them.

I think, that it is then down to the seller to claim any loss from the shipper, but I would hope that the buyer would allow a little time for the parcel to be found/confirmed lost, before getting their cash back.

But as I said, I never had an issue.

If for example, you buy something from Amazon...most times, you don't have to sign for it, hence, it isn't tracked.

Now...on the occasion that something did not arrive, I complained and a replacement item was sent and received. Subsequently, the original item then turned up.

Not suggesting anyone capitalise on this of course ;)
