Heres my question, can you be a great paintball player if you lack in certain aspects of the game but excel at others? Can you lack tecnical skills and still be great if you can read the field and direct other players, or vis versa?

i dont know

i dont know i think u need to eqaly excell at all aspects to be a really go player but for less advanced players being able to make plans and know the feild would be better than having high priced markers.

I'd hate to answer for the man, but Robbo seems to be the prime example of a player whose style tends towards one side of the spectrum. He has confessed in many articles and posts how he never strayed (or needed to) from his primarily technical style. Chances are not many people have seen him make any bunkering moves on the break, but his accomplishments speak for themselves (check the “Ask Robbo” section on p8ntballer, I don’t feel like typing that much). That being said, his accomplishments on the field and with women are eclipsed by mine. Hate to say it Robbo, but you can’t hang. I’m just in another league. :)

I think it was Tyger who wrote the article about putting a team together. But I remember 1 thing and that being Attitude speaks for itself. Not saying you have to be a total fart knocker. But a good well rounded attitude towards play helps when you lack one of the skills required to be a super star! Hell I may not be the best player in the world. But I give 120%, make corrections when my mistakes are pointed out, follow directions to a T, and have a pretty good attitude when it comes to TEAM and not I!

If you lack technical skills, you have two options, be a pot boy or the only other on-field alternative I can think of is to be a 'guided missile'.
Basically, you get to your primary and then when you are ready, or on somebody else's call, you have to bunker as many as you can, no real technical skill is needed other than speed and timing.
If you can't stay tight and shoot accurately (what I would define as being technical) then you have to try and play to your strengths which hopefully include speed and balls.

Actually...

...in Robbo's defense, at the last Campaign Cup he DID take his opponents' 45 "X" bunker off the break...it was almost a mugging, but definitely wildly aggressive! Remember that one, Petey???
