What happened to Phil in Vegas?

What happens in Vegas shouldn't stay in Vegas!

Early reportage suggested Phil D. was, apres Vegas, no longer NPPL Ultimate so I's been waiting all week--ok, it's only Thursday but I'm impatient--to find out the skinny. (Yes, that's sorta of an anti-pun)

What happened? Why the break up? Rumor has it Phil "quit" after Denver but was talked into reconsidering so what's going on behind the scenes?

Whose gonna take his place?

And hey, if you were in Vegas how 'bout your views of the tourney generally? How'd the new turf work out, etc.?

Losing Phil is a huge hit for the NPPL. The reason we decided to play Super 7 and not PSP was consistancy, which the PSP did not provide. You may not like Phils answers, but when he's done talking to you, you know why the ruling went the way it did. He may be a bit uncooth but I can not imagine a genteel man being able to do the job. Thank goodness at least the XPSL has the sense to keep him. (oh yeah, I told Phil that Pete should take his place :)

The event it self was great. The grass was in evidence more than last time we played there. We got really lucky with the weather, with storms threatening but never really taking hold and keeping things cooler than they could have been. Some interesting reffing calls (we had a player pulled for shooting a guy doing a run through, the refs thought he was on our team and going to the dead box!). All and all a successful event especially since the mid-year tourneys are usually not up to the standards of the others. (Quarter finals are miserable, nasty and should be banished forever!)
