What does sticky: mean?

Iv always wondered what it meant, does it make the post stay up their longer or somthing?

It means...

That the post that is "stickied" stays at the top of the forum until it is unstickied. It's a way of ensuring that important stuff gets seen by everyone, because it will be the first post they see in that particular forum (at the top of the list of posts).
