After a disappointing end to our first season, we are looking for a Mr Miyagi to guide and teach us the finer arts of Super Air ball.

Although Painting Fences and waxing cars is something we're unable to commit too, we are willing to listen and train and learn all the ancient skills of Miyagi-doe Airball.

The successful candidate will be:

:) between the ages of 30 and 75,
:) have a successful and proven history in tournament Super Air or Concept paintball,
:) be able to provide feedback and guidance in all the light and dark arts of balling,
:) display detailed analysis and implementation of dynamic corrective action plans,
:) have experience of unruly youth or care in the community patients,
:) be able to display monumental patience,
:) looking for a new and exciting challenge (being the operative word),

So if you think you've got what it takes, we would like to hear from you.

Please submit cv's to my PM or e-mail.

First of all, let me tell you I'm shocked. Today I have seen something that I thought I would never behold, namely serious posts from the Monkey Lovers....(see the all new PGI thread for more examples) :D

Seriously though, it is not that hard to find someone that can coach a team. The real problem is finding someone who wants to do it.
Obviously if someone has supreme knowledge of the game, he will be better at the job, but anybody with a working knowledge of the game, and an analythical mind can become proficient at it. But what it requires is for someone to commit the most outrageous act of self sacrifice, namely to stop playing the game. And that's where the hard part lies.
The reason I say you need to have someone that doesn't play anymore, is because you need to have someone that will at all times have the full view of a game as it unfolds. When a person is playing, he will always concentrate at the job at hand, that's not what you want. You need someone at the sidelines, that can see what both your team, as well as the other team are doing.
I could go on for a while (I have coached people and teams in several different sports, including paintball), but that would make this a rather long post, and that would lead to boredom and madness.
Hmmm.....I might just put pen to paper, and write something up...

If by 'success' and 'concept' you mean 'shot out Del Wildermuth at Arenaball 91 and nearly did the Preds at Mick Holdaway's Speedball in 89' then Rancid's your man...

Sorry Jay, I'll have him flogged immediately;)

On a side note - are you guys doing that 5-man open again early next year?

Oh and Duff, D'you think Rancid could cope with us? :D

You forgot to put 'on his fkin own'.

I would imagine that I'm probably the most underrated player ever to come out of the UK. Do you know, I once put together a team of barrow boys and itinerant pickpockets who were playing rec and 2-man three-legged tournies, and within 6 months we'd beaten EVERY pro team on the circuit, placed 3rd at the second largest open tourny in Europe and played 2 seasons in the HCL premier league. I mean, c'mon... this Nexus thing. It's not new you know. Somone got there before. Robbo? He used to train teams that were going to come up against me... it was all 'if Rancid does this, you must do that' 'if Rancid breaks here, then you break there' 'if Rancid sees you... well, there's nout I can do about that you're fkin nailed me old beauty'.

Yep, I'm fkin great me.

How's that Stongl - is that a good enough cv, cos if not I could always add that I'd make sure your team was in every single issue of pgi and probably two or three covers over the year... you do like the covers don't you?

On Buddha's point: I ain't sure I agree... I think any coach could help, but I'm not sure it would make the difference long term
I made a comment in some other thread about the difference between US and Euroball, and my whole (if shambolic) point was the vast number of mentors in the States versus, say, the UK. I mean, take Robbo out of the equation, who the fk's won anything? Now, when the Nexus boys finally hang up their guns, maybe.....

Mr Pink, if you're the man to show me Monkey Love, I'm the man to glimpse it.

Phil Ham, Giles Marshall and Dave Spittle are the only other UK players I think who would qualify...although it looks like Twizz is doing a good job with Ecstasy.

And then there's Rafe...but then again.:p

What I meant is that what is needed to be a coach is the ability to have "the greater perspective" of a game. Anybody that watches paintball will have a better perspective of the game than the players in the field. Obviously a coach's quality would go up intrensically with his knowledge of the game. Never meant to say that Joe Bob was as good a coach as Robbo ;) (even if only to spare the old man a heart attack :D)

Well, you know better than I... I didn't realise Dave and Giles and Phil were still playing.

And, god bless Rafe, but has we won anything?

Don't think they are - Phil was at Campaign for a couple of days but whether he or the other two would want to get involved, I dunno. Phil was the one who started Colby and Sam Keats off IIRC, and he's certainly got the knowledge.

Rafe won anything? You mean apart from the coveted 'Most buckets consumed in a single session' award?

:p
