im the same, but then went for the xxl, and it cut off the blood to my claf, couldnt even play in them 
managed to get he xl on but took me about 10 minutes to get the bloody things back ofim the same, but then went for the xxl, and it cut off the blood to my claf, couldnt even play in them
the dye xxl fit me will also been told the proto size up larger
the Dye ones went up as far as the bottom of my kneecap
shame as they were a lovley set of pads.
toying with the idea of the military style ones ( as they'll be under my trousers its not too much of a fashion show )
there are a set of police riot knee/shin pads kicking about on ebay at the moment , but that may well be taking things a little far.
