I know it's a bit outside Manchester, but only a 40 minute drive from town.

dangerzone first Sunday every month off snake pass on the way over to Sheffield, nice and friendly relaxed atmosphere, good laugh.
I used to be a regular walk on at OTE in Congleton for many years before moving South, run by some very nice people, used to be a great bunch of regular players and quite a bit of variation in the fields and game formats. Well worth a look.
