is it common practice for feilds to ban guns without trigger guards?
my good buddy cut the trigger guard of his spyder to make room for a double trig. heard he can't use it at the local field and indoor arena.

It's mandatory at most tournaments although it's often overlooked, much like the rule for barrel blocking devices.
It's generally at the disgression of the field operator for rec play , although as it's a safety feature it doesn't make much sense for him to have removed it.

yup, it's a safety thing.
Without a trigger guard it's possible to fire the marker by catching the trigger on just about anything- lanyards, clothing, bloke bumping into you. Most players wouldn't make a mistake with it, but accidents happen. Just ask my poor PS2 (cleaning accident).
I know lots of players who cut their's of, I wouldn't because I'm just not careful enough.
I know it's unlikely but: Forget your barrel plug and catching an exposed trigger and causing a serious eye injury----- but think about the number of players at a tournament, then how many events each year? and it's only gotta happen once to give paintball a bad name.
Anyway, all standard markers come with one, so do all conventional fire-arms. gotta be a good reason for it.
 preachy eh?
