I was thinking about that as well. Do you think the angel air reg would be consistent enough. I thought the minireg was there to give consistency.
I'm not second guessing you, just trying to pick things up as quick as poss.

I run my angel air at 450 psi output, so the mini reg is basically functioning as nothing more than a gas through foregrip, and my consistency is through the roof. How's this at the chrono? I set it at 450 psi, and every time I go out to play I get 287, 287, 287, 287, 287, 287, 287. And that's on an old AIR unit (the new ones are supposed to be able to supply lower pressure at a more consistent rate), so there's no harm at all in gutting the mini and just using your adjustable reg, as long as it's a good consistent reg (i.e., AIR, DynaFlow, Max Flow)

I also tried running this set up and had nothing but problems with it, I couldn't adjust the AIR in small enough amounts to get the desired velocity IIRC it was either around 280 or over 300. My AIR output also used to drop down slightly, not a problem if you're double regging but a pain if you're single regging.
But well worth a try, my AIR was quite an early one!

The low pressure mod for the AIR works on both old and new models ie. flat faced regs & domed regs.

Simply degas the system for safety, remove the end cap and take out the spring stack, which should consist of 12 washers in the following configuration: >><<>><<>><<. Re-insert 10 of the washers in the following configuration: ><><><><>< and replace the end cap. Add air & you have an AIR with a lower sweet spot.

I personally prefer to use a second reg ie. the mini-reg. It allows for greater flexibility in swapping kit around, avoids problems with players trying to chrony a borrowed marker which must be done via the AIR rather than the usual mini-reg adjustments & also provides an extra degree of safety just in case your air system decides to ruin your day and go full bore on you.

I haven't ever seen any real performance difference between the two setups, having tested on the same day with the same paint/barrel/Angel and with both high and low pressure AIRs. But it's all down to personal experiences, so at the end of the day, if it works for you, go for it! :)
