My review of the EVOLVE NEWTON Kit By Mark Maddison (Mad Dog Uk)
Well we have come a long way since the days of single shots and working our way down a forest riddled with hazards, to ever increasing our technology over maintaining a constant rate of fire with no drop off, yes and maintaining a straight shot.
Yes the hazards involved with playing this game on a level above your basic game are a mixture of a good quality paintball suitable for the event and weather conditions, this can be a task on its own believe me.
The Paintball you use is a major part for testing, if you use a bad ball you get bad results, I found out when using a bad set of paintballs over the crono the test results when up and down, plus a bad ball sometimes caught up with the ball in front. Because of the bad balls. The tip being if your using bad paintballs run your marker higher into the 50s.
Now I have fired many markers over the years from site markers to full competition but always you find yourself opening the internals and improving on the original build from the factory.
(Please don’t try this at home unless you have some engineering background and the marker is out of its warranty)
This brings me down to the boys of Evolve based in Nuneaton the midlands in the United Kingdom and myself being keen on any kit to improve speed, and also being able to shoot the worst of paints with the softest of hits they opened my eyes to what can be called engineering precision. To increase not only air flow across the whole of the internals but also to allow pressure to be dropped to 25psi across the bolt through the main system.
Be aware of is being covered here because although the addition of what will be described below and what is going on you must remember this.
• The marker must be of a decent quality.
• The main ram can cause you to have problems if it’s not in good condition, a new one is advised if fitting the kit, I found this out as my marker would not drop below an operating pressure of 50psi, mostly due to the Ram being abused and used over many tournaments.
WARNING the back face off the hammer needs to be out by 1mm for clearance otherwise your going to break the ram you have been warned, so don’t blame me. Just remember this.
• No matter how skilled you think you are, take your time as this kit running on any marker happens to take a balance of both internal pressures from your bottle source to the front volumiser, and then across your front ram adjustment.
My aim was to get an Angel Speed to run as low as possible on the bolt pressure and fire as consistently fast as possible, I have achieved it with the help of this kit.
This is an honest review describing how over a few months working out the errors and Evolving, excuse the pun. I managed to get my Angel speed to have an operating pressure across the bolt at 25psi and being able to fire constantly without the need for breaks with no pressure drop off.
First I will show you the kit as below which is the new updated version otherwise known as Evolve light.
Man this kit rocks for the money!
First let’s see the pictures……..look at the bottom of the page
Ok your first task is to run the front inline regulator at 300 and the pressure off the bottle would be between 400-600.
The front LPR adjuster cap when fitted should allow you to drop your marker down to running on 25psi but beware if your main ram has seen a lot of action this won’t happen and you will find it won’t run unless you’re in the 50’s.
I found running at 30psi is the optimum range due to rapid firing is seems to run like a tuned car would if you put it through a performance centre.
Running the internal shims with about 12 of the. 002” thick shims brought about enough play using this kit. Shush don’t tell anybody I’ve told you this!
I used to run a longer version of the front volumiser but they came up with a version which is shorter with greater efficiency but also they have allowed for long term use as it has a better cup seal instead of the often used and wear quickly ‘o’ rings.
When fitting please try and remember to grease up the ‘o’ rings with a correct substance DOW 33 is good.
Now with this in place I ran my dwell on its lower setting suitable for the paint and it rocked and was putting paint out like Rambo had a grudge with someone.
With the lightened hammer there is no kick, stopping you from shooting the poor guy in the head when you shot at him in the mid section, these alone became aware to me as I came out and snap shot a player out, it’s accurate.
So the thing to note is take your time with this and if you don’t know what your doing get someone who does, because once fitted you will have a marker beyond what other manufacturers can build, and with the 15 ball rule applying to some tournaments out there it just keeps going and going without drop off.
If your interested or don’t know how to get hold of a kit ask your local dealer or look up Evolve on the net
