Just thought I'd put down my thoughs about the Unreal site and the domination game. Firstly the good:

The site is easy to get to and parking is ample.
The staff, including Chris, Fish and the rest were top quality.
Food was cracking, none of your greasy Farm Stores burgers but Jacket Spuds with Beans and Cheese.
Paint was perfect and a good price.
SupAir and Castle fields were top notch.
Rubber rampage and village were OK ish.
H-Pac was it's usual top standard, I actually got a 4500 fill at one point!!

Now the not so good.

Spawn point on the SupAir side was constantly under fire, from spawn campers on both sides. This could have done with being moved slightly.
There was far too much fooliage in the woods (yes I know woodland is usually full of greenery) but this was dense. You might want to try and get the fields a bit more hybrid (more barrels and bunkers less bushes and stuff) I know that few guys including myself were fed up of creeping through the growth for 15mins only to get lit up by a punter with a Tippy hiding in some bush in his/her cammo. There is an aurgument that in that case I should have worn cammo, but I ain't going into that!
There were hot guns! Don't get me wrong the guys at unreal went through the routine of chroning as much as possible and I think it mainly worked but there were some that slipped the net (I know chris has an idea to which type of gun it was) but I few mates are still bleeding from welts even today and I've got a chunk of my neck missing!

Thats it really, not to bad!

I really enjoyed the morning session when the supAir and castle were used, with all that field space you want to get a few SupAir fields up and get some tournies going!

Highlight of the day, well I have two. The first was straight from the first morning game on. I watched 99.9% of the blue side run through the SupAir field to the castle leaving the red side to muller us from the woods.
Second was at the end of the day, me and a team mate were sat watching the village when we saw a red creeping up on us, the red stopped and began to poke a bush with his gun  Then one of our guys stood up with his hands in the air, to which me and the team mate lit the poor red guy up! :D
He got his own back though, he ran for cover behind a tree, wiped off and then begin to pelt me from the cover of his new hiding place.
Oh and the blue side spend about 10 mins shooting each other in the last game for some unknown reason.

I would go back, but the woods need sorting, they are great for your cammo clad scenario player, not so great for your ex tourny/rec baller out of a bit of fun. SupAir and Castle kicked ass.

Cheers for feedback Rob.

Firstly we understand that spawn points will always come under fire by a few campers close-by. Any suggestions to stop this other than uber marshaling which we reckon we already have would be appreciated.

Secondly we know the woods are overgrown and will be thinning them out during the winter months as it will be less dense during these months.

As people that have been to unreal over the past few months know the site is constantly changing and we hope, improving. Expect differences to the next domination in responce to all your gratefully recieved feedback.

I put a mini write up here this morning but it dissapeared so here comes another. Read below for more domination details.

Oh the pictures will be online as soon as our web monkey wakes up. We even have one of you Rob being lit up by our fearsome tippy wielding punters har har (well not really but im sure there is one of you somewhere!)

Thanks mate. Hope to see you at thge next one. Sep 25th (shameless plug:D )

Domination II. What did you think?
What a day. Unreal held its second Walk-on/big game last Sunday and a wicked turn out ensured it was one to remember!

We made a few tweaks after the last one and held a slightly different day this time with four 1 hour games being held over 2 huge playing areas. The first game was a bit of a standoff as the two teams got used to the rules and the fields but games 2,3 and 4 were utter mayhem with points being scored all over the field. The red team clinched the day but a last minute rally by the blues made sure it wasnt easy for them. Final score was 1200 to the reds and 850 to the blues.

We held our pre Domination party the night before with a bigger turnout this time. I would give you a write up on what happened at this one but I cant remember much. I have been told I was one of the first to leave/stumble back to my tent. Well done to all who stayed up later than me!

The team working on the event over the two days were superb. Massive shout outs to:

Lou Lou, Janice and Simon for keeping everyone fully fed and fueled throughout the weekend.

Kev "Ball Breaker" Carlyle and his gorgeous girlfriend Gemma for all their efforts on the day.

Dr Paul Bailey our resident technical supremo for his marker wizardry and keeping his Red Bull addiction in check for a day at least.

Local hero Jase for proving that at the end of the day its not the speed of the marker that wins games, its all about the players! Also for showing no allegiance to either team and pretty much just taking out whoever got in his way!

Liam for being, well...just for being Liam (Am I Blue or Red hehe)

And finally a HUGE Unreal Thankyou to all the marshals on the day. Im sure everyone appreciated their efforts during the games on this one.

Chris, Smog, Fish, Ian,Paul, Kev, Gem and Ben from UNREAL
Ian, Bob and Phil from MARKERMART
Gary, James and Andy as our Special Guests

Thanks to all who played. Let us know what you thought. We are already preparing for the next one. September 25th DOMINATION part III!

Again a big thanks for a great days paintball.

Will have to give the next one a miss due to the Welsh Open being played the same time as your next event, but will still get down for a training day or two.

Many thanks ..

No probs Smog, I did enjoy my day and feel the site has great potential. Hope you don't feel I was being over critical, hopefully you'll take it onboard as constructive critisim.

I will also miss the next outing as I'll be in sunny Lanzerote, what I shame. :D

Keep up the good work!!

Pretty much have to agree with Rob (thats a first !),but I have one major concern that being the car park.To get to and from the car park meant you had to pass through the game and\or the chronograph area, players were often unmasked as they went to their cars DURING GAMES !!!.An accident waiting to happen.
The chrony need to be netted off in a permanent area and a netted walkway needs to be put in to access the car park or the car park moved.

Hia Rob and everyone in the Unreal Team

Now I'm not having a go at you rob (its not personal mate) but id like to take this opportunity to offer a counterpoint personal opinion on the comments and points you raised.

(Also being a RED player hasn’t anything to do with sounding bias).

Firstly the good:

The ‘new’ car park and ‘signing in netting’ was a superb idea IMO.

”The staff, including Chris, Fish and the rest were top quality.”

Cant agree more! I think people tend to forget just how long Chris, Smog, fish, Ian, Ben, Kev, Paul et al have been marshalling and doing things at unreal. I think for their level of current experience they are all doing a fantastic job (and how many sights invite no holds barred feedback on their walk-on days!) lets not forget that fact.

We should all be grateful to Chris’ mum and long suffering girlfriend the food was superb. You did a great job with the food and hot drinks and deserve a big THANK YOU.

Paint WAS perfect, superb choice and all at a very good price.

“SupAir and Castle fields were top notch.”

Supair as a whole is ok and I liked it being up but would have preferred the flag to be in the castle.

I felt the Rubber rampage, village and bridge were superb, with attack and counter attack needed to secure the flanks of the attacking or defending team to guarantee success. Great team co-ordination communication and tactics were needed on the first 2 games in order to win.

Now the not so good (and my opinion about what rob said).

There was a lot of confusion by the players to what they could and couldn’t do and what seemed like ‘rule changes’ mid game regarding the Spawn point on the SupAir side which was taking fire, from spawn campers (I remember Chris was getting fed up of getting shot and so was I when trying to spawn). I think, spawn points need to be away from the fire and maybe tape delineating (I've borrowed that big word off fish!) access so ANY camper caught inside the tape get an instant 50point fine.
Also, in game 2, we came under fire from the ‘demilitarised’ zone of the road by the h-pac as we were defending the tires. I don’t want to sound critical but I think at the end of the day we all want fair play and we get miffed if WE are playing by the rules but someone else breaks them. Things like wiping, general rule breaking (aka cheating) and the big bugbear hot guns.

I think the ONLY way is to get all the marshals experts at knowing the rules (so if asked they can confidently give an answer) and thus ‘singing from the same hymn sheet’. Being **** hot rule enforcers from game 1 and slapping –50point deductions on any infringement. No debate, no arguing, no appeal.

I hate the idea of a nazi marshal or harshly enforcing rules (I myself dont like marshalling like a t*at) but people WILL push the rules as far as they can and I feel that’s why there was a bit of bad feeling floating about. The day was an unbelievably hard fought competitive event (the most intense I've ever seen or been involved in) and so people will be desperate to win. Its human nature. Who wants to loose. So I think ULTRA STRICT marshalling is needed next time. Any marshal that sees a spalt physically pulls the player out and sends them to the spawn point. If there is any hint of wiping they get a ‘yellow card’ and a big deduction. Any rule breaking gets a deduction. The result will be what everyone wants. Greater honesty and fair play. why? Cos you know if you get seen by a marshal you’ll be in trouble an if anyone shouts ‘marshell I think I got him’ the marshal WILL pause the game, check it out then either restart or send to spawn point. I know 90% of all players on Sunday were honest and there was no need for marshals to be in peoples faces, but like a nuclear deterrent, it will prevent problems. That’s what I think at least (and who wants to upset kev and get him whooping your ass! )

“There was far too much foliage in the woods (yes I know woodland is usually full of greenery) but this was dense”.

I totally disagree mate. I feel there is a superb balance of cover in the woods. Too many times I've played in a wood that looks like its been sprayed with agent orange and I hate it! One ‘hybrid’ map sounds a good idea (OTE have a good map like that) but id be very disappointed if too much foliage is cleared. Taking out the thin spindly saplings which provide cr*p cover would be good and as a lecturer in conservation, it will be very healthy for the woods ecology, and of course, better for play. But speaking for myself, the Mouldart crew, ‘the general’ and a few others, it’s fantastic having such natural cover.

“I know that few guys including myself were fed up of creeping through the growth for 15mins only to get lit up by a punter with a Tippy hiding in some bush in his/her cammo. There is an aurgument that in that case I should have worn cammo, but I ain't going into that!”

I'm sorry rob but please stop whingeing. No offence intended mate, but I'm an A-5 owner who gets the biggest buzz from advancing in a 5m spread, extended line formation doing cover and move, waiting for a contact, as a unit, or coming in for an attack on a base in squads of 2 or 3. It’s an immense rush setting an ambush along the path between the spawn point and village waiting for a contact or outflanking a position before setting up an attack or moving through thick bracken not knowing if your going to get zapped at any second.

Paintball is big enough for everyone’s tastes. I don’t enjoy sup’air you don’t enjoy tactical scenario play. Fine. I respect what you enjoy and I hope you respect what I like. But I also hope you show a bit of respect for the punters using site guns in future. They have as much right to be there as you and if one fairly shoots you up the ass… tough.

”There were hot guns! Don't get me wrong the guys at unreal went through the routine of chroning as much as possible and I think it mainly worked but there were some that slipped the net (I know chris has an idea to which type of gun it was) but I few mates are still bleeding from welts even today and I've got a chunk of my neck missing!”

I agree. The two things that should be banned are hot guns and blatant wipers. I've got a bad neck wound too but a mate of mine had a pod smashed and last time someones goggles were cracked. This is freaking dangerous and anyone caught should have a life ban and kicked off the park.

”I really enjoyed the morning session when the supAir and castle were used, “

I really enjoyed the last two games in the woods. Attacking then holding the village then attacking the bridge with the mother of all firefights and an amazing squad move (lead by Mouldart and the general and a great guy with an M16 car look-alike) in the last 2 minutes. Who was the gutsy blue who tried to take the flag on the bridge in the last 2mins of game 4? Respect! Who was the ‘SWAT’ black uniformed red player with a tippy? (cliff?) Awesome firepower. Who were the guys with a randy cherwower dog who took a fancy to my leg? Well, its not the first dog Ive pulled! Lol watching jim the generals run from the castle to the flag in game one, then getting creamed in the valiant attempt. Those were just a few of my highlights.

”I would go back, but the woods need sorting, they are great for your cammo clad scenario player, not so great for your ex tourny/rec baller out of a bit of fun. SupAir and Castle kicked ass”

I'm DEFINITELY coming back next time. No question. The land mines, fireworks and pyros are superb and make the day such fun. The woods do NOT need sorting out IMO. There are great. Thin out the small saplings, open up a few glades, maybe on one map ad a few barrels but as a tippy wielding desert camo jacket clad scenario player rec baler, I cant see how you can make it any better! The two domination points make it so much more intense cos you get more players in an area and at times resembled scenes from saving private Ryan or Stalingrad. Let the tourney boys have fun on the sup air, us scenario guys have fun in the woods and we can meet in the middle for a caste or rubber rampage assault.

Guys you just keep getting better and better. Well done and thank you for such a fantastic day. I so cant wait till sept!

Thanks For the advise!!

Rob , Fleisher, and Scott

Firstly thanks for all the advise guys and the two main points I would like to raise are,

1.) The spawn Campers!

We are constantly trying to change Domination to eradicate this problem from the playing fields, but i think inevitably if we have spawn points we are going to end up with some form of spawn camping, Ive had a few ideas id like to run past all of you.

We can try moving the spawn point even further away from the playing areas but this again creates problem with the distance to cover between Domination points. We do however believe that the reason the spawn point at the top of the sup-air field became under fire, was due to the team attacking it getting into far better positions than the team spawning from it.

We are going to move the spawn point further away up the road on the next Domination, also cover straight out of the Spawn points will be available. The spawn point should act as a HQ for the team to gather in force to attack domination points and should therefore be considered as another point to defend. ANOTHER CRITICAL point is that the routes that supply players to the Domination points also have to be defended, if lost this will enable the other teams to camp spawn points.

So guys this is my point, we will do everything in our power to stop spawn camping but the way Domination is played the onus is on you guys too. HOLD the rubber rampage!! (Both sides, its a great map to play on and we want to see it used more!!!)

2) HOT GUNS!!

We locked the front doors before each game was played and everyone was subject to a crono before the games were played, we found many hot guns in the field which were sent back into the safe area for tweaking. We had marshals out in the field with hand held chronographs and although we cant catch everyone we caught a fair few. We can continue to do this and come down harder on players that are caught but Im sure everyone will agree that some will still slip through the gap.

Also some markers that people thought were ramped were in fact fully legal and ok under site rules. We may change our rules however in the future about RT's. An A5 with an RT is still limited to 15 balls a second. We all know that electro markers on pure semi are capable of much faster bps. What we do want to see in the future is people with RT's keeping their bursts below 4 or 5 seconds instead of letting them go fully auto on a sweetspot and charging through a hopper in 15 seconds flat! If people continue to use RT's in this manner WE WILL BAN RT's from use on the Unreal Site. (an RT on the sweetspot is in our opinion no longer legal as it acts more like a full auto marker. as Scott says One Shot = One Kill)

OTHER POINTS

-We are trying hard to please everyone at our site and are fully aware that one persons nasty horrible cluster of nettles is somebody elses favourite hiding place. We will clear some main areas at Unreal over the winter months as it will be easier to do during that time. We will be keeping many areas overgrown though as natural woodland is fun to play in too. Maybe a good compromise would be to clear some larger paths to the Domination points and place more cover along them, but again guys this goes back to defending the supply lines to the Domaintion points if you team is holding a clear route through there should be no problem keeping the domination point either supplied with defenders or re-enforcing the attack.

So guys i hope you enjoyed the last and are looking forward to the next we have around 60 booked in so we look forrward to seeing you all again soon.

FREE CASE of paint to anyone who can come up with the best idea for a name for the Christmas Special at Unreal, plus any ideas for the Bon fire night special also. ("DONT EAT YELLOW SNOW" is already taken.)

Scott no offence taken, it's good to hear from someone with a different view to my own. You summed it up quite well with this statement, however I do like scenario play to some degree and no punter got to shoot me in the ass!!!

Just another point, I wasn't whinging about the Tippys and Camo I was just a little pissed off at the time, after all my hard work creeping through undergrowth without a single person seeing me in my bright blue gear, feeling good about myself I made a move to take the villiage only to be took out by one patiently waiting punter at the end of it all!!! :D

I thought of another funny point of the day. Last game of the day waiting for game on, I was watching two guys in camo talking, when one asked the other if he had any spare paint left. At this point the other retrieved a plastice bag from his coat full of squashed paintballs. I looked towards Jamie (Fleisher) who had seen this as well, we could do nothing but shake our heads.

Chris remember you can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time....or something like that. Keep up the good work.
