well pompey have a society, one of the first to do so I think. I played in my 1st year but shot straight into the overdraft doing so and haven't been able to afford to play since, and i do have a job while at uni and yet can only afford to play when back home for the summer. I think most paintballing students use their student loans to play, most use it for rent though:p

Student funds can be limited, but paintballing is no more expensive than loads of other things students get up to. Smoking for example. 10 a day at £5/pack adds up to £912/year. If you get you an ion (£150), bottle (£60), and hopper (£40), go to a dozen training sessions/walk-ons (12 x £35 = £420) and a 4 KotH tourneys. (4 x £60 = £240) that would cost £910, meaning you've got £2 left over for a pint and as an added bonus you don't have cancer. :p Of course you might want to spend more than than on paintball, but I was just illustrating that it is possible to play.

If you are going to Portsmouth then it should be even easier. As with most university paintball clubs, Portsmouth get financial support from their Students Union/university. Also the Uni league we are running next year is going to be very light on the wallet. And another advantage that is emerging for uni teams is the availability of gyms for doing reballing in. This will allow you to do weekly training for a pittance.

And avoid the pitfall of blowing your student loan on a flash gun and then not having enough money left over to train and play. If you want to get anything more than an ion, check in advance that you will be able to afford to play with it. If you will, no probs, but if not then consider whether it is really worth having gold plates... but no food.

Looking at the dates the Keele tream should be ready by then. Its taking time to get off the ground but the players interested are setting up a society etc.... so will have more news from them soon.

The Unreal site will be able to offer itself as a venue aswell for any of the dates if needed. We will have a permanent Sup-Air pitch in place at the site soon.

Hey bud,

im the captain of portsmouth uni team at the moment and the uni are subsidising our play now, more than ever. We get pretty much half of everything paid for apart from paint which your looking at about £20 a box for. theres about 10 of us that train at least every 3 weeks and our health and safety proposal is currently going through for reball which would mean training twice a week in our gym for about 3 hours. to be honest iv played more paintball this year than i have ever done b4.

Got any questions feel free to pm me mate,
take care
Dan

Its hard but its manageable. I joined Quake in my fresher year at portsmouth and have 1 month till graduation now. Like everything at uni you just need to be sensible and work out what you want to achieve for the year and set aside funds to do it. DOnt be silly as the student loan dissapears on rent, tuition and food. Most unis have societys which will help you out or do as i did and help them but dont play for the uni team.
