University & College Paintball League Round One details
Ok students its that time of year where many of us are cursing at not having resived enough for summer exams and cramming that last minute revision in for the re-sits. Others of you have just recived your A-level results that have confirmed university placements so I thought I would give you some news to make you smile.
Details of the University/ College Paintball Leauge Events over the next acedemic year.
Now last year there were alot of issues that were raised and these ALL have been sorted. The aim this year is to run a more structured format.... yes my student ballers we are finally going to be run as a league and how a league should be.
Sooooo lets get you the gorey details
Round one
Will be held on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd of November at Combat Paintball in Snetterton.
Registration will open at 8am all teams need to provide proof of every participants student status, any university not registerd by 8.40 will forfit their first match, last game will finish at 6pm.
For universitys without their own kit don't panic, this year thanks to the support of combat paintball you will be able to hire Ions, Hoppers and Tanks for £15 for the weekend if booked in advance or £20 on the day.
Masks can be loaned out if pre-booked free of charge from UWE.
Format: This year we will be running on a modified version of X-ball lite it was felt that this would be more cost effective and user friendly for all teams. More details on this will follow.
So whats the cost?
£250 on signing up, this will get you the welcome pack with list of contacts and details of everything including RULES and standards expected.
2 weeks before each weekend event a further £75 will be payable to the league, this will be seen as an attendance confirmation and is to prevent teams dropping out the night before when they could have informed us earlier. At the end of the rounds £50 will be reimbursed to the teams who have attended both weekends or given suitable advance warning of dropping out.
What does the £350 get you?
-4 rounds split over two weekends – This reduces universities costs dramatically and seemed to be the popular vote at round 3 last year. If we get more than 15 teams the league will be divisioned off and run over 4 weekends, although each university will only have to attend two. The dates are as follows.
- Good experienced reffs, Woody and his crew are back!
Round one
November 1st / 2nd (Div one only if divisioned off, 1st round for all if not divisioned off.
December 6th / 7th (round 2 if divisioned off, nothing if not)
Round two
Feb 7th/8th (Div one if devisioned off, nothing if not)
March 7th / 8th (Div two if divisioned off, 2nd round for all if not)
Accomodation: Camping looks to be available on site tbc, details of local hotels can also be provided on requiest.
Paint: we are working on a deal for paint at the moment which would involved you pre-ordering paint to collect on the day. Or you can purchase Draxxus Silver on site for £30 a case.
For those without a university team don't panic we have the university Barbarians a team made up of student ballers who play outside the league in order to help raise the profile of univesity paintball as a whole.
Anyone interested in the league please PM me with your name and university so I can get an information pack out to you when they are hot off the press at the end of the month.
There is more to come, I just wanted to share the good news as soon as possible to give you all something to get focussed on.
UPDATE: UPL and its plight to help get Paintball as a Recognised sport.
As most of you know the UPL has been working closly with BUSA to get the league up to standard in the hope that we will be recognised as a sport. This year we can announce that thanks to those at Birmingham University if we manage to get 21 teams BUSA will take over the running of the league. Its a large tartget to aim for but I hope in time we will, this would be such a great step for UK Paintball as a whole so fingers crossed.
And lastly I would like to thank LIPS paintball for supporting the UPL for the academic year 2008 / 2009, without them, well we would be screwed
