Whilst doing official paperwork for the UEA Paintball Club, I kept getting asked about governing bodies. Now this is fairly simple for rugby, hockey, football, cycling etc but with paintball I was thinking....have I ever seen a governing body symbol whilst at a site. I vaguely recalled the UKPSF. Checking their sie, was surprised that they're saying they are the ruling UK body for paintball and all sites have to follow their rules.

Now I remember they have been fairly active on the air safety front recently especially with stakos going off! After reading bits of their site I came across this:

"With all these points being taken into consideration the United Kingdom Paintball Sports Federation has decided that as of today (26/01/01) the only recognised mode for a paintball marker is SEMI - AUTOMATIC.
ONE PULL OF A TRIGGER
RELEASES ONE BURST OF GAS
FIRING ONE PAINTBALL.

Accidental double balling will not be deemed as breaking this rule.

The UKPSF requests that all paintball sites and events organised in the UK operate this ruling."

Now just thinking, when was the last time I was told not to have ramping on my gun....I really cant. Unless in the tournament it says semi only, but at sites, no issues there. So is it a case that they are a VERY quiet national body, do they only care about woodland/recball paintball or is it a silent rule that is assumed everyone knows.

I'm sorry if I'm being a very dense newb and if I have been in the sport x many years I would know better but from almost an "outsider" view, there is something keeping paintball an obscure hobby in the UK rather than the sport it is in America.

Please could someone shed some light on this?

This isn't me "bashing" the UKPSF, it is a genuine request for how active are they within the paintball community. I simply dont see a lot of their activity recently. How tightly do they regulate the tournaments?

This is a legitimate question....if I am so far from the truth, just tell me and I'll happily retract it as I want to be wrong, but dont bait me into saying something I'm not.

Also, do the Masters count as a UKPSF sanctioned event. I cant find the UKPSF mentioned once in the event rules on their website and according to the UKPSF website:

"Cover is for players playing at a UKPSF sanctioned event*....

*UKPSF sanctioned event - Walk on days, scenario events, tournaments that meet UKPSF criteria"

again, legitimate question.

Times have changed and ramping has become the norm at lots of events BUT it is for the event organisers to check with their insurance companies etc... to see if they are OK with ramping.

The UKPSF several years ago had a meeting of all the main tournament organiser (and at the time I was an organisers) to try to standardise the rules etc... decisions were made and ideas talked about but when they left the meeting nothing had changed and several organisers carried on doing their own thing.

The UKPSF offers player insurance for a small sum of £12.50 at sanctioned events and as you will see the UK Masters is on the list. How active would you like the UKPSF to be at tournaments?

Is the UKPSF active - simple answer is yes - It is 9.30am and I have had 2 e mails from the HSE today and a 20 minute conversation with a HSE official - is this relevant to players, again the simple answer is YES as the outcome WILL have an effect on UK paintball !!

Steve

Please note I did not take you posting as a UKPSF bashing post just a couple of general questions that I am always willing to answer steve@ukpsf.com
