UK: PA/Super League 2008 Info

Russell Smith

The Paintball Association
Hi everyone as you all know the PA has this season merged with the Super 4 series and with that we believe we are in a position to offer you all, the best series of events in the UK.

As you also will be aware we have announced that we are playing at Ancaster but because of the amount of dates already booked on the site I do not believe that the fields will cope with that much action and I decided I could not take the risk in not having a playing service to the standard the players need.
I also needed to run my events two weeks before the Millennium events and three of them was already booked by the masters who did not want to move them.

So as good as Ancaster is I have confirmed we will be attending Lincoln (the old home of the masters!)and as that is quite local to Ancaster it should not change the travelling times for the teams a great deal.
We have supplied the site with new five metre netting and they have agreed to re-jig the fields to our standards so we can give all the teams a good day.
The new site pose code is LN1 2JW.
The fully confirmed dates are;

May 11th
June 22nd
Aug 24th
Sept 28th

We will also be doing a joint PA/Super 4 Cup on the 2nd of November.

We intend to try and bring a new feel to the events and will be offering several formats for teams to choose from and those are......

Full X-ball, minimum of ten players per team, entry fee £425.00 per event. The pro division has an exception to this requirement.
X-ball lite, maximum of seven players per team, entry fee £275.00 per event.
5 man, maximum of seven players per team, entry fee £175.00 per event.
We are also considering doing a three man event with cash prizes if we have available field time, we will announce if we will be running that division a week before the event.

We have also confirmed traders who will be attending all the events with full trade stands and various paints for your delight and those are:
JCS Sports
LIPS
Phoenix
Warped Sports

It is a bring your own(BYO) event but why would you bother with the above attending, if you are looking for any deals/sponsorships I recommend you get in touch with the above soonest.

We are also in discussion with a few others who will be announced upon confirmation

We are pleased to announce there will be a minimum of $2000.00 in prizes at every event for the five man teams.
The five man will use a new playing/scoring system that will provisionally class teams into a grade A,B, or C they will then play three of each division and will score points accordingly for instance if a team is graded C when they play another same or lower grade team they will score normal points.
However if they play a higher grade team a handicap system will come into play and the elimination points get very attractive, if they play a team one grade above them they will get double points per elimination and if the team is two grades above them they will get treble points for every one they eliminate.

The opposite will also take place in that if a top team loses players against a same level team they will lose Y amount of points for a team below them 2xY and if the team is two levels below them 3xY.
This format will mean all teams will find a challenge within each game and no team except the pro Xball division will be required to play all the events so play none, one or the lot it's all good.

Hang on, I'm not finished yet!
We will also be getting the right people in to do training clinics in for teams/players to attend on the Saturday at a very good rate (tbc but I am sure we can get it done less than £30 each)
Nicky T, London Shockwave, and Birmingham Disruption have all agreed to offer their services for your potential benefit. these spaces will be limited and if you are interested you should book your place asap.

The PA/Super 4 website is in the process of being updated and I will let you know when it has been done.

We have confirmed H-pac as our air supplier and will also require like other events that all players have UKPSF insurance, you will be able to acquire that at the first event and we will be doing a free high pressure air course for all who want to do it.

I will be putting a confirmed team list up soon but I will only put teams on that list when they have paid a deposit and you can now do that on-line at

Any questions! post away.

The new five man format at the PA/Super 4 events

Hi,

I have had a few calls and more than a handful of PMs about how the new format will work so I thought I would put some examples on here.

In it's simplest form it is a handicap system that can be used to encourage the "better" teams to play smarter paintball and the "newer" teams to have a go.
I/We will grade teams into three levels, lets call them A,B and C for clarity.

Each team will play three teams from each grade so will obviously have nine games in the day.
All teams will score points for eliminating players and will also lose points for players eliminated by the opposition.

Grade A example.

You will not see any benefit from the handicap system (you are on the top of the pile) and you will score points as follows

If you play any level team you will score 5 points per elimination who ever you play, but you will lose points for each of your own players shot.
If you are playing a grade A team you will lose 5 points per player lost.
If you are playing a grade B team you will lose 10 points per player lost.
If you are playing a grade C team you will lose 15 points per player lost.

So if you win a grade C team but lose 3 players doing it you will lose 45 points from your total.
the same scenario against a grade B team would see you lose 30 points
and against a same level team 15 points

Grade B example

You will see some help in three games (your A teams) no difference in your own group and have to be careful in the other three C games.

If you play a grade A team you would gain 10 points per player eliminated and lose 5 points per player you lose.
A grade B team would be gain 5 points and lose 5 points.
And a grade C team would see you gain 5 points but lose 10 points per elimination.

So again the scoring system makes you play smarter paintball.

Grade C example

Well you are in a win win situation when you lose players it will mean a 5 point reduction on your score but for every grade B player you shoot you will get 10 points and each grade A gets you 15 points on your score so you could get beat by a grade B team shoot three of them and end up with 30 points.

Even though you will be playing different grades of teams during the day all grades are only scoring points for their own grade division so if you are C grade you are only totalling scores against other C grades teams at the event.

To stop the potential anomalous scores appearing like a grade C team wining a grade A team with out loss (that would equate to the C team amassing 150 points and the A team having -75) the maximum any team can score in a single game is 100 and no team will receive less than 0

The idea behind it is to encourage the better teams to play tighter and smarter and instead of legging it up the field as individuals and doing well but not well enough to attain the next level.
The newer teams will be rewarded by learning to show a smaller profile and shoot accurately instead of just hanging out and shooting five pots up the field.

You know this format may just fall flat on it's arse but I have a good feeling about it.
I hope it looks as clear to you as it is in my head but the thing to remember is you will have something to play for in each and every game.
I am sure this will prove to be a very exiting and enjoyable format for the five man teams to play.

russ i know all players have to be ukpsf membership but i was wondering if pit crew also need ukpsf membership

Only players need to have the UKPSF Insurance, as for your non playing staff we are taking some advice about that but I would recommend it.
Originally we thought Refs would also need to hold the insurance but we have confirmed as paid staff our own insurance covers you if they cause any incidents.

one thing i'm unclear about.

you can use a marker in semi capped at 15bps?

or ramp capped at 12 bps?
If you are in the 5 man divisions you have to use semi mode only and for the first event that is to be capped per last seasons rules (15.4bps) at the second event onward the current Millennium Series gun cap rules will be adhered to but the 5 man format will remain Semi mode only unless the majority of teams request a change.

The closed Xball division will comply with the new rule from the first event.

The open Xball and Xball lite will be allowed to comply with last years ramp rule for the first event and then as the 5 man divisions comply with the new rule from the second.

Right Guys and Gals, i and Russel have had alot of pms about this event with people commiting themselves to attending. Please note that unless a deposit is received you are not confirmed for the event. I would hate to see teams turn up on the Sunday expecting to play because they have posted up here or pm someone saying they will attend but not paid deposits to find the event is full and they cant be squeezed in.

This will be a brilliant first event with great prizes up for grabs with all of the best teams in the uk attending. Thank you to those that have paid deposits already your details are filled away.
