June 2007 - Oklahoma D-Day. A 7 day event culminating in a 4000 player D-Day themed game (www.oklahomadday.com).
We've arranged a travel package for UK based players who want to go over and fly the flag for blighty. Below are the details as cut and paste from two other forums (I apologise for any repetition):
------------------------------------------------
After much work - I've put a package together.
Package Includes:
· Return Flights to Tulsa (via Atlanta – includes taxes, fees and surcharges)
· One night hotel accommodation (4 Star)
· Airport Transfers (USA end)
· 7 Night Luxury RV Accommodation (with slide-outs, flatscreen TV, Shower, etc.)
· 7 Days RV Pitch and Hook up
· 7 Day D-Day Game Ticket
· Photo DVD of Trip by professional photographer
· All pre trip administration and liasons
· Free sponsors goodie bag
· Comprehensive Information Pack
· Pre-departure orientation event
-----------------------------------------------------
Right - this is where we are at:
1) Transporting markers:
We've spoken to all relevant authorities about the transportation of markers. We have written confirmation from the airline company that they WILL transport our guns in the hold. Players who sign up for the trip will receive further details about packaging guns in their info pack. The US Department for Homeland Security and the UK Home Office are also both happy about this arrangement.
2) Co2:
No CO2 bottles will be allowed on the plane.
3) Air:
Air bottles must be completely disassembled. Security must be able to shine a torch inside the bottle to inspect it. Re-fitting the bottles can be done at the paintball site in Oklahoma where I believe they have qualified technicians - will confirm this in due course. Will also price up new bottles in US, maybe less hassle to simply buy a new bottle there.
4) When we are there:
There are paintball games for 7 days building up to the big game on the Sunday with 4000 players. There are also paintball related events running constantly throughout the week (i.e. a sniper course, assault course, speedball courses, gunsmith courses, etc etc etc). As not everyone will want to play paintball constantly for 7 days in a row we'll put together a list of places to visit in the area. Anyone wanting to bugger off for a day or two to get away from the site can simply take one of the RV's and spend some time travelling around. Oklahoma hosts one of the largest water parks. Being the height of summer, a day away from the site chilling in a big waterpark sounds pretty good to me.
There are restrictions regarding the consumption of alcohol at the Oklahoma site so maybe a good plan to drive the RV's to a local city, park up and go out and have some beers - can drive back to the site the next morning.
5) Transport/accomodation:
Using RV's will solve two problems 1 - Transport 2 - Accomodation
The RV's we have spec'd will house 6 players. There are cheaper alternatives to the ones that we have spec'd but they tend not to have all of the facilities that we will require. Our RV's will have power (for charging laptops etc), LCD Tv, DVD player, Hi-Fi, Shower, Slide out, Air Con (many cheaper ones don't have Air Con), Ice machine, Fridge and Freezer etc etc. Photo's of the RV's will be in the players info pack.
6) Visa's / passports:
All these details will be in the players info pack.
6) Our role in the big game:
If we want an 'all action' role in the big game it's been suggested that we join the East Yorkshire Regiment. Our role will involve piling out of landing craft and hitting the beaches. We then have to fight up the beach and a covering hillside to take the objective. We have to hold the hill and beaches to enable the armoured units to come ashore - so the role is pretty significant to the overall game. Plus it sounds feckin' cool!!
7) Payments:
The entire package is currently £1,000. This price can only be guaranteed for the next 14 days. After 14 days the price of the flights may fluctulate. Anyone wanting to come on this trip at the £1000 price needs to pay a £250 deposit by Tuesday 14th November.
After 14th November - any price increases will be passed on.
After the initial payment, there are two payment options: 1 - A monthly payment plan of £150 per month for 5 months. Payment for your trip will then be completed in April 2007. 2 - Two payments of £400 and £350 to be paid in January and April 2007 respectively.
All payments can be made via PayPal, Debit/Credit Card, Bank Transfer, Direct Debit or cash paid directly into the account.
er...that's about it.
So what happens now?
Anyone want to come on this trip at the £1000 price point needs to get £250 to us before 14th November. PM me to get bank/paypal details and for my phone number if you need to discuss anything.
--------------------------------------------------------
Travelling with us will be a freelance journalist who will be submitting articles to 3 mainstream 'lads mags' after the trip, the articles will be accompanied by photos of the 'team' etc. There will also be coverage in the paintball media.
Andy - if you are interested, maybe we could contribute to the Talkpaintball Online Magazine?
We will also be running a website from Oklahoma. Each day we'll write a report and upload pictures so that folks at home can keep track of our progress. We will also upload video each day from the DVDCAM and the helmet cams.
er...that's about it really. Looks like we have over a dozen people so far - it would be great if any of the Talkpaintball guys could make it.
Cheers
Timboy.
