While im not really a newbie (been playing woods ball fer 2 yrs) I am brand new to the tourney world. Me and 4 of my friends decided to hit up some local tournaments this summer, but are clueless on how to get going. We are planning on going to a pay field and practicing a little speedball. Does anyone have any tips/tactics for us, so we dont get pummeled our first attempt at a tourney. :) I figure we can try out speedball and then split up and practice 3 on 3 (if we get another player) in the woods(there is a nice speedball type set up in our local woods). Is there anything we should know?? Thanks alot

My thoughts

There are three major things I can think of to help you in tournament play:

1. Watch your angles. Make sure you are watching your angles to make sure no one has an angle on you or to see if you have an angle on someone that doesn't know that you do.

2. Communication. Most important of all. Make sure your whole team is talking to each other. Make sure everyone knows how many players you are up/down and where your enemy is on the field.

3. Don't think too much about making a move. If you think about it too long you will miss it and you will be pissed. Go on instinct.

I hope this makes sense since I am not sober right now:D

I agree on all of Johns points, especially the communication. I played my first tourney recently and found it's very easy to concentrate very hard on laying paint down, and not hear your team shouting at you to see if you're still in the game (this happened to me, they couldnt see me and I wasn't listening). Keep shouting and listening to your back guys if you're a front player and keep shouting and listening if you're a back player.

Just my useless opinion,

Tom

Got to agree with what everyone else has said but it might be a good idea to check out your local paintball store and see if they know of any local teams in your area to contact and maybe practice against.
Most teams are more than happy to give help to new teams and if you can actually get them to show you a few moves its much easier than practicing on your own and will probably work out cheaper as well.

Go watch tourneys be ing in one. Listen to what people say on the sidelines and look at what they're looking at, because they should know what's important. Familiarize yourself with the pace of the game and the event--some stuff zips by faster than you can think about it, other aspects drag on for eternity. Prepare yourself for them. Get in the habit of constantly inspecting your gear for any possible problems before they happen, because problems can happen at any time and when they do they can bump you from first to last in a stupifyingly short time. Get to know people so you can get deals on equipment and practice paint. Find women that will travel with you so you don't have to worry about coming home and finding that your lady of choice didn't want to keep waiting for you and left. Eat well and drink lots of water.

Mother, is that you?
Onion mate, i love you dearly and you bless this site with your presence....but, did you know that 45% of all your posts have comments about women in? Mate, that can't be right. Give it up, bud. As Manning would say, 'Mmmm come over to the dark side sweetie pants XXXXXXX.'

Advice for tourneys? The best player in the world once told me, 'hit your bunker, have a fag (cigarette for you yanks) and take a look around.' Ok, it might not work for supair, but for woods it pays out time and time again. NO TUNNEL VISION.

Dude, get that dorky lookin dude off your icon and go back to the wolf harvesting the crops. Did some people not pay attention to my posts in the icon thread, instead pandering to the utterly disgraceful stuff about keeping mommies and violently puritanical brainwashed politically correct zombies happy? I agree with keeping stuffed toned down, but geez dude that's castration and then a badly mangled sex change.

Field walking and the resultant knowledge is definately the cornerstone of successful high level play.

Big Red, like Onion said, walk the field. Figure out which bunkers are key, then backwards walk, and figure out how the heck you can get one of your fella's in there. It may take speed, it may take A LOT of paint (usually both), and it may be a timed secondary or tertiary move. If it's some mirrored pallet type field, then you've got those angles to watch, and you're pretty much just fighting for property at that point. If that's the case, keep pushing forward, keep your guys on their crosses so they can protect each other, and fight for that first flag pull. Those little points add up, and can put you into finals even if you're not having a great day. Just go out and enjoy yourselves, you'll get knocked around a bit, but, if anything, it brings your guys closer and creates a greater drive to improve. Good luck to you.

And Rancid, I never said any crap like that. That sounds like something out of your bi-porn collection, are you off your medicine? Git.
