Tourney marker

I'm gonna finally sort it; a year of my trusty Spyder Flash LCD has been a lot of fun, but I need to put my money where my paint is now...

So, I'm raising some dough - how much? prob £400 GBP ish (maybe slightly more if necessary) to buy a marker towards Xmas time. I always fancied a second hand Angel Speed (am I in the right price bracket here - without air?) But I've never seen one, let alone held or shot one. JUst heard good things and like the look.

At the weekend, I shot a Nightkast cocker and loved it - really thought it was fab. So, is it preferable to the Angel? Cheaper? Better? Would I get one 2nd hand in the same price range?

And for both, I figured for the time being I'd use my current 4500 88 ci bottle, which is on a standard thread. Would this work for either or both? Would I need extra adaptors (like, with the spyder, you just screw it into the back and there you are)? How much?

Possibly I'm barking completely up the wrong tree, and there's a better choice? Or Maybe I've underbudgeted?

Any thoughts and comments gratefully received...

Angel Speeds are accurate, fast and less maintenance than any cocker, and some do go for within your budget. Nightkast cockers on the other hand are good and you can upgrade them to rock even more, but NEVER GET HIT IN THE FRONT END PNEUMATICS!!!!! (pain to clean).
It is all about personal preference as there is not much to choose between those 2.
another marker that is good to buy is a Impulse Vision, low maintenance, well within budget.
If you increase your budget to £500 you can get a Matrix from Sheriff, and these are also great, like I have already said it is all preference.

You need to get a bottomline, or purge on/off(recommended) to put your air bottle into as none of the above markers have one fitted like the spyder.

also if you want to save and dont want to buy new there is an abundace of angels available on here cheap think the average price for ir3 is around 360 notes with air tho, all you need to do is take the ****e cops system out and replace it with a set of eyes which stig from pheonix could possibly advise you with.

In between now and getting your new gat try as many different markers as possible.

While all the 'top end' markers are all basically the same - they shoot paint - each one has its own quirks, try em all then get the one that your most comfortable with.

the main problem with asking a question like ' what marker should i get' is that pritty much everyone has their own opinion and will more than likely say buy brand x because that is what they shoot or that is who they are sponcered by that company.
the most sound advise i can give is try as many makers as you can and decide what YOU like......best way to do this is go along to a tournie, even if you arnt playing and ask a few people if you can put some paint thru their marker, if you havnt got a paint source dont worry, its easy to pick up a case at a tournie for sencible money.
in my experience 99% of tournie players are more than willing to let people try their gear out.....especially the sponcered teams who want everyone to try their sponcers gear out.
get cheeky......ask!
my own markers have been know to go out to other people for a game or two and a lot of players will say the same.

other than that the only advise i have is buy and eblade!!! they rock :D

Mucho useful everyone, thanks a lot. Yeah, I know the answer ultimately is to ty everything. And I know how passionate everyone is about their own set up, so I guess the answer is to just see what speaks to my hands...

A question though...

I had NO IDEA the ir3 was so cheap on here - what's the deal? Why so much cheaper? Is the eyes thing so critical? It seems a lot of people turn them off a lot of the time? Or have I just got the wrong end of the stick?

I guess what's confusing is that I've always thought the Speed was the 'cheap' 'low-end' Angel but now it seems that it's the ir3? Or not?

I was also wondering - just trying to make sure I've got all the information - is there a huge difference between the Superstock and the Nightkast?

One final question - Rich H suggests 'squeezing it past customs'. How does one go about this? Is it advisable? For my Flash I had to order a couple of bits and pieces - a new board, trigger, etc - a no one seemed to care. I'm guessing though, that for something that's worth a lot more, and that in a post 9//11 climate, something that looks a lot like a gun, is gonna interest those lovely folk at HM C&E a whole lot more..?

I shoot a Speed and love it! :)
Cockers have always scared me a bit, they look like they need a lot of attention. The speed on the other hand is just turn up and shoot. You will need a ASA to use your current air bottle, I reccoment the CP on/off adaptor and the rail. Available from planet. Or you could take a look at the Speed my Team mate is selling.
