Dear all,

I would like to know, based on your paintballing experience, have you attended tournaments where you are not allowed to use your own paintballs??

Especially paintballs which are sponsored by your sponsors ??

The coming Malaysian Paintball Circuit Tournament (the one where Team Zone will be attending-pls refer to Team ZONE (UK) Press release : http://www.p8ntballer-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=33517 )

We have forwarded this question on behalf of the other visiting teams from the United Kingdom and Indonesia, and it seems that the committee in MPA are going to have discussions over the matter.

Just curious as to how others run the tournaments.

Kinda weird right if ya can't use your own paintballs for a tournament and forced to buy the paintballs from the organisers at a price??

All feedback is appreciated.

Cheers,
Allan

Not played many tourneys, but never heard of that. There was one "tournament" at NPF once that had that but it was a woodland punter (sorry customer) tournament so it's kinda to be expected.

Surley if peeps av to soot the site paint they will break their 'contract' with their sponsors?

There used to be quite a few tourneys here in the UK that were 'site paint only' as this was the only way for the organisers to make money thus allowing them to lower the entrance fee.

Also you could only use diablo paintballs at sparklies site when they had tourneys there, this was due to some contract or other because it was also a rental site.

Recently it has become not such a good idea because many teams who are contracted to shoot certain paint cannot be seen using another manufacturers paint and will simply not attend.

In Malaysia it may be a different situation, if most of the teams attending are not sponsored then restricting the brands of paint can help bring the costs down which in turn helps the sport grow.

If you want to attract alot of foreign teams then restricting the brands of paint will not encourage this.

Because of the regulations on staining paint and environmental and safety concerns, the Millennium Series no longer allows you to bring your own paint, but you buy it on-site from the paint distributors (not the tournament organisers.)

For most teams, who are sponsored by one of the major paint companies (or one of their resellers) this only means a change in who hands them their boxes of paint; the teams' sponsors will ensure that the team is charged the correct price and given the correct allocation of free paint.

For teams who are sponsored by a paint company that does not support the Millennium Series, this is obviously a problem, and they have to find a paint company willing to supply them at a reasonable price. However, for teams in the lower divisions who are not heavily sponsored this does not usually mean a huge extra cost.

I don't know what the status is with NPPL or PSP tournaments, but nearly all the domestic tournaments I know of are BYOP (bring your own paint) events.

Might I ask how the price you are being asked to pay compares to your normal paint prices?

EDIT: If this is a subject of negotiation with the organisers (who stand to make a profit from the sale of paint), might it be worth suggesting they invite all the major manufacturers to attend to sell paint to teams, and charge the manufacturers a consideration? That way the teams have a choice of brands, which keeps prices more reasonable, but the organisers still have a chance to make up the lost revenue.

I believe Zap still run a series of international tourneys where it's Zap only paint...and as already pointed out the Millenium series have imposed restrictions on what paint can be used, although I suspect that driven by economics rather than a concern over stains and environment.

I actually don't think it's out of order for the organisers to insist on what paint can be used and there's a lot more tied up in this event than in some...

Plus I think you'll find that the paint on sale will be very reasonably priced anyway...and I know that if I was playing, the last thing I'd want to pack is 40 cases of paint...think I'd rather just get it there ;)
