i am looking to get a new gun here in the next few months, and i was wondering what a good tournament gun would be in the price range of about 500 dollars. My other question is, what is the difference between the gen-x 3 and the gen-x 4 cockers.

$500 definitely narrows the options. Simpler choice for you, then.

Basic Impulse

Stock Autococker

Something used... get on eBay or the classifieds of this forum.

Sometimes you even get lucky, and the deals on eBay aren't stolen goods! Seriously, that is the best way to get a good gun cheap, though a little technical knowledge will make it a more practical route. Some of the guns on eBay are fine, but someone set them up wrong, so they sell their source of frustration. If you figure out how to tech the thing, you can save hundreds.

For the money, yeah, they are fine.

I personally hate the drop they provide, but you may like it better. I had a Gen-X 2 myself, once upon a time...

Nice thing about cockers is you can replace bits as you go, instead of buying a new gun every 12 months. Autocockers grow with you. In fact, I still play sometimes with the second cocker I ever owned, though the only part that is original is the beaver tail. Couldn't ever justify replacing that. Get an electronic frame and any cocker is practically class of the world, though some pull it off better than others, depending on set up.

Happy shopping!

As far as differences in Gen-X cockers, I am not really up to date on what ANS is doing these days, but unless you have some compelling reason to chose the more expensive of the two, go with the cheaper one.

One compelling difference would be if the more expensive one comes with a vertical feed tube, instead of the right feed tube. Bodies ain't cheap to replace, and that is the only way to change the feed tube orientation.

You probably will not notice enormous differences in the two other wise, though, as I am not really following ANS products, I could be mistaken.
