.. that is the question

I got thinking on my many journeys back n forth on the M4 the last few weeks, about the millennium series choice to drop some of the events. One of which is of course Toulouse. I comprehend that Laurent is going to be doing the Paris event but the Paris event in 2004 was a bit of a mediocre event and the venue was lack-lustre to say the least. Toulouse on the other hand was a first-rate event last year along with Malaga yet it has been dropped as one of the circuit events. Now don’t get me wrong Laurent worked wonders in Toulouse and made a terrific event but the move? If Toulouse was so good, why change?

Ok so maybe Laurent will work wonders with Paris but after last year the reputation of Paris is tarnished with the thought of a sub-standard venue for a disappointing event. I for one will now think twice about travelling to France to take part in the French leg of the millennium series. Will you?

But my main question I found myself asking myself many questions some of which were “What if the event is good or bad and then what?” “Even if the event will be just as good as Toulouse, why the change and will it make other people think twice due to the reputation it has gained from last years Paris event?” and because patience is a virtue that I not comprised of, I put this discussion over the friendly folk of P8 for find the answers of my questions.

Laurent and his crew put on some of the best PB events in the world. He has a quality orientation, focuses on customer satisfaction and has a drive for perfection. Even though last year's Toulouse event was world class and great in many ways the venue has become outgrown and has a few disadvantages:

¤ Significantly more expensive to fly there compared to Paris for most participants

¤ It is too spread out and therefore there is too much distance between the first and last fields. There is a lot of walking and running from the staging area to whatever field you play on. Definitely much less compact than a typical NPPL event. The distances caused some substantial delays during the finals.

¤ There are almost no hotels nearby which means that the participants have to stay in different hotels all around the metropolitan area. That detracts from a sense of community and the overall ambience. That also means a lot of driving and means that most have to take taxis to the players' party or to socialize with other players.

¤ Because the event has been on a hilltop, wind occasionally creates problems.

I suggest you put your confidence in Laurent's desire and ability to put on a great event. He and the others on the Millennium board are committed to making this season the best ever and to make their series once again the best in the world.

To compare last year's Paris event with the upcoming one this year is like comparing apples with oranges.

From what I've heard from Laurent, expect to be knocked outta your socks--positively. Have faith!

o do i have mucho respect for him, only thing he did wrong was hiring erotic dancers at that club that slap u if u grab there buttocks. Doh! :( actually i blame lasoya for that mishap(sp)!

I thought the layout of toulouse was spot, i didn;t mind the walk to and from fields gave me a chance to make a pit stop at beer tent thing.

Flight i cant really say, id din;t pay for the flights, but cheaper flights wud i have to agree be more beneficial to all. Also i wud think paris i easier to get to from states?

Aye the hotel thing was a lil bit of pain, wasn;t too bad for me n the boys as we were right next to clubs, more or less. but had to pay quite a bit on taxis to get to site.

Provided that the Paris event will run on the best possible venue, the knowledge and experience of Laurent and his team will make it #1.

As mentioned Paris is better than toulouse in terms of flying to, accomodation.

My team looks forward to compete in Paris:D :D

Definitely easier from the states. When I went to Toulouse and Lisbon, both times we flew out of LAX on Air France and had a lay over in Paris at CDG. We could not find direct flights into either place and the difference between a flight to Paris and a flight to Toulouse was about $200-$300 a person.

This may not even be an issue. The teams I have talked to said they probably won't make the trip since the points don't count. We were thinking about it, but not sure we will not because of that.

thats another thing that disapoints me. I hate to say it but i think tourneys are better with the top american teams there.

dont you want to come over just to play with us euro teams? See the sites, play diff. teams?

It's difficult for a lot of the guys on my team. They have jobs during the week, school, etc. I know it was a pretty big hardship on me when I left my business for 10 days at a time, twice in 03. I'm sure a lot of people are in similiar situations that make it difficult to be gone that long.

I'd love to go see some other countries, Lisbon was a blast and the tournament at Toulouse was top notch. Traveling down to Barcelona to see the sites was cool as well. One of the reasons to come over was to play in great events, well we have that in the US now so going to Europe doesn't hold the exact pull that it use to.

Our team may use the funds that were set aside for a Europe event to play a couple events closer to home, possibly Aruba, Bunkerfest, etc.

One thing I do know is that if the points counted we would be looking into it closely, but as it stands now it doesn't look like that is going to happen.
