Hi a bit of an introduction to start, im steve (duh) i live in kingston surrey and i have previously done airsoft.

within the next 6 months i plan on taking up paintball because i just had a great punter day and i figured why not!

id like to get into supair and minor competitions

i thought i would make a post and ask for some advise, how to get into the sport, walkon days seem good but i am alone and i dont have a team let alone someone bar forums to ask for advise on kit to buy, im currently considering a second hand proto pm series.

whats a good way to get into a team and the sport in general? are there any local events i can goto and what sort of kit would be good to start out with on a reasonable budget (i dont want to put a price tag on this)

Thanks

HI Steve

welcome to the forum and the wonderful crazy world of Paintballing.

regards starter kit the best thing you can buy first off is a decent mask. Eyesight cannot be replaced!

then maybe look into a pack? air tank? hopper? and then finally a marker of some description. if you really want to go the whole hog there is padding and jerseys/playing pants to look into aswell which depends on your tastes and funds.

most teams will have a uniform of some sort.

best advise i can give is to find your nearest field or PB store and try on masks/gats until your comfortable.

once you've got yourself the basic kit you'll find it easier to join a team.

most walk ons will have people willing to loan kit or let you try things out.

regards your nearest store or site i carnt help but online theres plenty in the classifieds

or try

www.planeteclipse.com

www.justpaintball.co.uk

or any of the forum sponsors.

hope this helps and welcome.

I would suggest a visit the next NSPL event in Reading on the 26th July mate.

If your interested in competeing then this would be a great way to see how it all works and what its all about.

And its not far from you either. ;)

Hello Steve,

Like you I'm a beginner. I'm not too far away from you as I'm in Crawley, West Sussex. I recently bought my own kit as none of my mates wanted to play on a regular basis and walkons were my best/only option.

I viewed all the forums and rang around to find out what kit would be best for me and believe me there are loads to choose from.

Basically it comes down to budget and how far you want to go.

I went for an SLG UL 09 as for woodsball, which is all I will ever really play it's ideal as easy to maintain, shoots well and was within my budget. Hoppers yet again personal preference, however with goggles make sure you save a good piece of your budget for these as comfort and safety is paramount. I opted for the E Vents.

If you are free this weekend (Sunday) there is a walkon at Holmbush paintball which is only about 40 mins drive from you. Everyone there is extremely friendly and always available to offer advice and you can see all manner of different markers, goggles and hoppers.

As you can see from the previous comments you will get lots of advice all I can say is try things out where possible and enjoy.

Greyman,

Some of the best players in paintball came from Crawley; isn't that right Twizz :)
Holmbush is a cracking place to start playing - hope that you enjoy every second of it :)
Good luck :)

All the advice that has been given so far is good stuff. Things always look different in real life so go get your hands on some gats/masks/etc to see what you like. A 2nd hand PM is definately a good starting point though, or perhaps consider a 2nd hand etek or ego as they are simpler to maintain and perform very well for the price. Teams are always looking for new players so once you've hit a few walkons etc you can start digging through the comprehensive team list (stickied in this section of the forum) for teams near you or even see if you can guest for a KOTH team. Anyway, welcome and have fun :)
