When I first started out, I found that I learnt the most from talking and watching people play. To avoid using the wrong information, talk to a lot of people and you will see that some hints come up everytime. These would include talking a lot (communication is the key), and always keeping your eyes open to the game (so you don't miss any moves the opposition are pulling). A general consensus of opinion from rec ballers that move over to tourney ball, is that is more intense, and instead of a game taking 10 minutes plus, it is usually over in 5-7.

Once you move over, I will guarentee that you will be hooked. Like Booga said, have a word with Planet, or even pop in to see them. They are located on Trafford Park (address on their website) and are very very helpful, especially when it comes to the tourney scene. Other than that, just enjoy your first steps into tourney paintball, and I will probabily see you around :D

Good luck

Bitten by the Bug

Dude, if you think you have been bitten by the paintball bug just wait until you start firing that Eclipse Cocker!! it will blow your mind!!

You will find the tourney scene up North very freindly but quite competitive, most team will play at least one tourney a month and probably train once a month too. The main thing is that you are prepared to commit the time, the next big thing is the financial committment.

just as a rough guide playing once and training once a month can cost you anything around £100 or more including travelling etc, it is money well spent and you will enjoy it thoroughly.

If you are keen to get on a team then we are currently on the look out for players for next season, we are based up in the North East of England (Darlington) and train the 1st Sunday in each month.

our next training day is on the 6th of October and we would be happy to have you come along for a try out and a good days training on a Sup'air field.

I'm sure we could work something out for transport both to training and to tourneys, we have one player who lives in Chesire (not sure where!) and another who lives in Macclesfield who all being well would be quite happy to sort you out in some way shape or form.

Anyway, if you are interested e mail me at Neildavison1@aol.com
and we'll chat some more.

Later

Woodland is still the daddy ;)

If you spot any teams practising when you're at a site on a rec-day, pop over and have a chat, that was how I joined my first team.

Running around in the woods is a completely different world compared to ``competition p8ntballin´´.

In the woods its like, ``so here im sittin, in a bush. and i gotta shoot 2 balls...cuz dats the limit......oh i got im!!!, nah a squirrel..´´

And on the field you have adrenaline.

Not all woodland games are slow and boring. Some are very fast, and not that distant of sup 'air ball games. I am not saying that woodland is best, but each to their own. What suits one person, does not suit another.

Just to set the scene, I prefere sup 'air and will be at Campaign in 2 DAYS TIME!!!!! sorry, had to get that in :D

All competition paintball used to be in woodland - and tournament play was just as frenetic as it is now. Only difference was that people weren't quite so concerned with looking good and posing as they seem to be now. ;)

Sup air focusses more on fitness (speed you can move around the field) and the amount of paint you can chuck. Woodland places more emphasis on good communication (I've seen plenty of 10 man fields which are so big you can't see your centre player, let alone the bloke on the opposite tape). I'd love to see some of todays back players try a limited-paint tournament....no more 'supressing fire' or 'spray and pray' there. :)

Both have their place, but bouncy-castle-ball just doesn't float my boat. :D
