Hi,

I took my dive tank to be filled the other day, The test date is sept 99.

The guy said that Dive tanks need to be visually or hydro tested every 2 years. Obviously, that puts my tank out of test and as a result, he wouldnt fill it.

I was under the impression that Dive tanks only had to get tested every 3 or 5 years (depending on whether they're steel or aluminium).

Did he fob me off or was he right to demand a retest of the tank?

Cheers

The guy fob u off!!! I've been through this as well Stainless tanks have to have a visual inspection every 2 years and a hydro test every 5.........ONLY IF they have been used for diving. If your tank doesn't go near water then it just need a Hydro test every 5 years.

I guess you get it filled at a diving shop as that's what they know, go to a gas suppliers and they'll fill it.

Aha!!

Yes, he did mention something about being used for diving.

It was pretty obvious that I'ts never been used for diving since it was still in the box it came in.

He must have thought that I was a dodgy camo-wearing tippmann-toter and therefore not trustworthy because I told him that I've never taken it diving. He didnt take my word for it. Git.

Why do dive-shop employees have to be such officious arseholes? He gave me a funny look as if to say 'Bah! You damn paintballers! Always using our air tanks for your silly little guns!'

Anyway, cheers for the info.

Yes the testing criteria for LAND use tanks is longer ...but my local dive shop now will only fill the tank if it has a year left on the ticket...he claims cos of insurance on his premises (sounds to me like a way to make extra test fee money) I am a little stuck though cos he is the only local dive shop that can fill my tank to 300 bar the one 5 mins down the road can only fill to 232 bar
a fire exstinguisher supplier has the equipment to do it also..and test the tanks so that could be an option
