timmy eyes

My eyes on my timmy have packed up and ive just been having a look through the maplins catalog..
original timmy eyes are about £25+

but any reason http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2262&criteria=Infrared &doy=24m8 and

soldiered onto the original wires shouldnt work???

No they are some imperial size that I cant rember rigt now.

im sure timmy eyes are 5mm equivalent, pls correct is wrong

Well I could be wrong, but I have a vivid memory of trying to fit 5mm eyes in a 2k2 timmy and the holes were a fraction too small, upon measuring the exising eyes, I found out they were an imperial size which measured just under 5mm.


Also, for the sensor you need a phototransistor not a photodiode.

the closest imperial size to 5mm is 3/16"

Nearly all the 5mm LED/phototransistors you can buy in Maplin, etc. are too long so they will foul the bolt.

I think timmy eyes are 4.7mm dia? Will have a look tonight as i may have some, if not i will have the RS Components part numbers.
