thread lock on regs

why are preset reg loc-tighted in place and for example A.I.R. is not and its adviced not to use it because it will numpty it up
surley the pressure will hold reg in place as you screw and unscrew the preset

Yes...its to discourage you from doing your own servicing!
Never threadlock a bottle on..as long as the oring is good..it aint gonna come off no how when its got even a bit of air in it!

The logic with presets is that you have to unscrew the tank to remove it from the marker (which is usually the only way to turn it off as well). What you don't want happening is the bottle separating from the reg rather than the reg from the marker.

Not very likely to happen, but I have seen it happen once, to a mostly-empty tank that hadn't been loctited to its reg. Quite impressive how much noise that makes, and how far it flies. Lucky also that nobody was standing behind it at the time.

Of course if you have a down line bleed/dump valve/on-off bottom line, this wont happen.
Get an on/off bottom line...turn it off...shoot the gun till it stops firing then unscrew the bottle
