you start a thread to get some help/advice or to organise something and they take it and discuss uter shi*e and for what reason.
If any one out there can enlighten me on why they do it please let me know.

I think the difficulty comes from people who are desperate to make a comment, but can't really find anything constructive to say. Like me really.

Agreed, and under such circumstances it's a shame to lose the posts completely.

Also sometimes a thread casually drifts off topic into something more and a very important debate happens. This occured recently with the X-ball threads and reffing etc.

I'd hate to see over zealous stopping of thread jacking removing that.

To be honest I've only ever once been annoyed by thread jacking, and that was TJ drifiting people off to talk about killing boy bands in what had started as a serious thread... but I can see the importance of that thread jack!!!
