The Players League?

Seems that Karma from Florida won't be able to attend NPPL Vegas this weekend due to emergencies caused by hurricane Frances this past weekend. Also seems, as of Wednesday evening, that the NPPL is unwilling to either refund (understandable if harsh) or credit Karma for the next event in San Diego instead.

Apparently, despite claims of teams waiting to get in the NPPL got no love for a team of players hurting due to the effects of 2 hurricanes in the space of three weeks.

No matter what Karma won't be there, their spot in the schedule is empty and the schedule will either give their opponents free points or the schedule will have to be redone. In any case, the inconveniences of Karma not appearing are all born by the other competitors.

So what y'all think? Should the NPPL have had some heart here or is the bottom line the only line?

Logic would dictate that the reason of the refund is not seem to be true by the NPPL.

I can not and will not believe that when an act of god hits a team this hard that the NPPL is not willing to be flexible.

No one benefits from a ''no show'', replacing the team with one
from the ''waiting list'' could with the current time scale be undoable
but again i can't imagine when a team is from the area hit hard
by one of the hurricanes the NPPL is not willing to be flexible.

Didn't dubya declare it something official like a 'National Disaster' (or something similar) the other week? NiPPLe should recognise it and make an exception, if it had happened to 100 teams would they have done the same thing?..

This is an exceptional circumstance. 2 Hurricanes in as many days. No team when they apply and pay to play in an event can forcast what just happened to Florida. NPPL should defo refund or at least credit Karma for the San Diego event. That is just plain courtesy and the excuse for not attending is very very legitimate...

Baca, they have credit for San Diego now right?

EDIT ADDED: can only say as of Friday it seems so, but I don't know for sure.
One would have thought that for an operation as promotion savvy as NPPL has been that this would have been a no-brainer easily worth the price in warm fuzzy player feelings. I mean look how fast they co-opted Mo Gibb. (Did I say that? I'm ashamed of myself. No, really.) TFP

Karma, how apt...the NPPL's treatment of the team, whatever that may end up being, will obviously be revisited on them.

Oh, and Matski, Dubya's exact words were 'the helitrain has confuzzled and pulplexed many of us europeans, and my fellow citizens, i shall not be afraid to grasp the nettle by the horns of justice'.

Thanks for caring

I play for Karma and can shed a little light on this subject.
Before the 2nd hurricane we e-mailed Camille and explained our situation. Almost the entire team is based out of Vero Beach/ Port Saint Lucie area. This was where Francis made landfall. Forecasts were predicting this was going to be where it was to hit. Camille was asked what our options were. She sent us an e-mail that basicly said "good luck, hope to see you in Vegas" and didn't address any of our questions. At this point we didn't have time to pursue this any further as we had to evacuate and board up our homes.
Someone who knows us (not sure who) started a thread about it on Smacktalk. Before we knew what was going on there was a firestorm of hate directed at the NPPL on our behalf. This was not what we wanted but it did result in me recieving an e-mail from Phil Domingez (sp) saying that he saw the thread and then called Camille about it. She told him that she would apply our two entry fees toward San Diego. He seemed to be genuine in his wanting to do the right thing. I can see both sides of the argument and the team has no hard feelings towards the NPPL. No matter what it is still THE league to participate in.
Gotta go prepare for this new hurricane now. :(

I can't believe it's not butter

Good to hear, Fabio. You guys deserve a break. Take care, down there. (Spent today boarding up houses for Ivan. Just in case.)

Re: NPPL. I know you and the Karma guys didn't make an issue of this but I still think it's a viable question and worthy of discussion.
