The Manchester scene

G'day guys,

I wasn't sure where to post this so I hope i've got it in the right place!

I've just moved out to Manchester Uni and i'm paintball deprived already; i'm getting withdrawal symptoms!

All I really know about Manchester is Planet! I'm looking for places to play really. Only know of Delta Force south of manchester ... where else is there?

I'm also after a job up here if anyone on here knows a friend of a friend that needs a hand in the paintballing field at all? I tried e-mailing planet (as the phone in my room still hasn't been connected yet ) but I've had no reply

Just ask at planet,half the teams in the north go there and know where to play/train/get pissed,they,re sound guys and will give you any advice you need....Failing that ask the hobbits masquerading as just manc/so manc...Frenchie...."we likes hobbitsesssssss"

as far as i know in Gr.Manchester there is only the one walkon site in Congleton (A54). planet runs this so phone them for details. its on last sunday of the month alternating between normal walkon and OTE (king of the hill type game).

i phoned a few other around the local area, and none of them offered BYO and the most promosing one i could find was the indoor at dunkenfield (central manchester) who said they can give us a big discount on paint...wait for it.......[added suspense]..........at a whopping £5 per 100 - i had to double check we were talking about paintballs and not gramms of viagra. so i laughed at him and he finally agreed we can bring our own if we can pool together 20 players who have no rental/air needs. but he wouldnt say how much so i can imagine it being quite costly. its a shame that they all only really concentrate on corporate/social parties. i never rang delta so have no info for you.

so it would be much appreciated if anyone can post any good places to play.

as for supair, the nearest pernament field to my knowledge around here is in wrexham so hopefully (please,please,please) im wrong about this and someone can post a closer one.

as for stores, then yeah planet, try to get their midweek though when the techs are there. it does suite most of your needs, they even sort you out with minor repairs for free - very nice lads, but if you are an angel owner please wear your extra thick skin and prepare to have your "precious" judged and ridiculed for some reason or other.

as for getting a job there - no chance. join the queue and be patient! plus your a student - get off your arse, put your chequered shirt and name tag on, and go mcdonalds and get me a banana milkshake or ill take your prize possesion traffic cone of you.

did you go to your freshers fair? was there a student paintball club - probably somewhere between the "Che Guevera Apprectaion Society" and the "Linux Club" (seriously - i kid you not!). all i know is that salford use to have one and the four major unis (salf,MMU,UMIST,UofM) did combine pb once because of the few numbers - but apparently it dwindled and fell through - there is a thread about it somewhere.

Interesting you say uni clubs as I actually asked the union months ago about paintball, but 9 of of 10 of them didn't even know what the sport was!

I was thinking of seeing if I could go about setting one up, but i'm unsure how to market it as I don't want people coming along who have never played before looking for a once off laugh at the weekend.

Oh and that cone is mine! Touch it and face my wrath!

Like johnmassive said, only know of Wrexham for 'local' sup-air ... thats why our team trains there. Half the team are based in Manchester the other half are Wrexham based.
