Word on the curb is the word will be coming down maybe as early as this week sometime on the prospects for reunification in 2006. But the question remains what effects it will/would/could/should have across the Paintball spectrum.
Here's your latest opportunity to play Mama Lambini and even better, give reasons why you voted the way you did. (Mama just mutters under her breath, throws the cat off her lap and heads for the liquor cabinet after a session with the crystal ball.)

Good for the Industry:

I know this for a fact due to conversations with several members of "Big Paintball" who had all but admitted that they were exerting pressure on the PSP and NPPL to reunite so they didn't have to "Support two starving children".

On the face of it, it makes sense from their perspective, since 2 major leagues means double the time on the road and double the money spent on promotional expenses, in the form of sponsorships and the like. Assuming the leagues stay seperated, then Big Paintball is going to have to choose between the two, and it's obvious that they don't want to do that.

I contend (along with others) that if the PSP continues on their current track, they won't be around long term to force that decision.

Everybody

But not in a literal "every single interested party can only stand to gain" type way. I expect there will be a few small losses. So excluding the small-scale individual difficulties that inevitabley arise from change, I think that in general it will be benefitial in the long run to everyone.

But maybe I have to think that - because i don't like the idea that nobody's interests are of any relevance, other than those of the people who are making the decision.

the big leagues will surely lose out when/if things gets unified, less revenue for the people involved, as some teams were choosing to play both. Now if things get standardised into one league the powerhouse teams only need to be involved with that league to keep their status.

Nobody.

The "Big Industry" can simply choose one or the other - it's not like their business depends on going to these vents, and if it does, they'll pay to go to the ones that are profitable for them vending-wise.

Everybody else it's not even close - if we lose the competition between the two leagues, the first people to lose will be the players. Followed shortly by "Small Industry" as they get priced out of event sponsorship.

And any reunification announcement is going to be "No Reunification". That ship sailed two weeks ago.

I voted for "big paintball" mainly because I'm an evil conservative (yes, I know evil is redundant). Not because it will help "big paintball" on a vending and sponsorship front, that's ancillary-chicken-feed in the great scheme, but because "big paintball" owns the leagues, and one way or another at least a few members of "big paintball" will be the beneficiary of a unified league.
Even though it will be easier for "big paintball" to sponsor "little team" in a season with less than 10 events, or more accurately easier for "little team" to spread their meager sponsorship dollars over fewer events, the current economic news coming down from "big paintball" is that things won't improve and more than likely will decrease for "little team" for the foreseeable future.

I'd say that's a pretty clear indication of no-reunification.
What, you couldn't link to Keely's post at SmackTalk instead? We do have some standards around here, you know. And besides, not really the point. (Once I predicted no unfication it was a forgone conclusion. :p )

The point of the poll is/was to perhaps spark a few thoughts as to just what the value of unification/ re-unfication really is/was/might be. (I know, yet I continue to live in hope. Despite every evidence to the contrary.)

I saw the other one first. Smacktalk rots your brain.

But, I predicted no reunification before you did, so nyah nyah. ;)

Maybe Missy can log on to tell us it still might happen though.

We need a different poll:

Why DIDN'T reunification happen?

actually Chicago, you didn't predict it at all. You made an 'official' statement about it if you remember, which turned out to be unsubstantiated and misleading. Tnd then had to be chastised and scolded like a child, which was the fun part.
