Just wanted to give a big public Thank You to all the refs at the NPPL Miami event, especially those who worked for me on the Evil field. Despite some hardships, like no water on Friday and no cleaning crew for most of the event, you kept the field in shape and did your job. Over the course of more than 150 games, we stayed on top of the games, made the calls and even kept on time. So thanks to Dano, Russ, KC, Tom, Ben, Willie, Steve, Chris, Larry and especially Mike for all your hard work. And I apologize for being such a pain in the ass to work for. ;)

I also want to say Thanks to the Scandanavian guys for coming over and doing their usual great job. Steiner, Lalle, Andre, Steve, Martin, Stefan - you guys are the best and I hope I get to work with you again next year. Hopefully Steiner can stay awake through dinner next time :D

Finally, to all the teams who played our field - thanks for playing some great ball. I hope you appreciate all the hard work and long hours we put in. If you had a bad call on my field, I apologize and hope you know that we're only human and did our best for you.

Man, I was trying to figure out a tactful way to ask "are you Shamu?" of every ref on every field.

We got the snot beat out of us every time we were on your field. Strange destroyed us in less than 1 minute. Not the marshalls fault, of course, we just played it wrong. Good reffing overall, mostly. Evil was good (reffing). The worst i saw was Raven- the refs seemed like they weren't minding their own zones, and totally ignored the players nearest to them. The NPPL and Drakula field refs had a particularly tough job, I thought, due to layout. But, they stepped up to it well, mostly.

Okay, Whale. Let's see if we can turn this into an MLT thread before Friday when I will otherwise have to banish it to the forums nether regions.

How 'bout splaining the Powertrip game? First the stoppage and restart and then grabbing the last player of the opposing team at Powertrip's start position, holding him for 15 seconds to check him before allowing him to return the flag. We can get into what happened during and after that 15 seconds next.

Shoot, I was hoping to get this in before your powers came back :D

OK, the Powertrip game.... that was some game. Here's what went down...

Powertrip was playing an american team (sorry, can't remember who). On the break, a player from the other team messed up his slide going into the ladder on the right 40. He was hit going in and the ref went to pull him out. As he checked him, he realized the player was hurt. I was on the far sideline, so as soon as I realized something was wrong I ran over to check him. Once I knew the extent of the injury (possible broken/dislocated arm) I called for a game stoppage. Referees were directed to keep the players in their bunkers while we attended to the injured player. Once he was able to get off the field, we made sure players were in their bunkers and the correct number of players was on the field for each team, then restarted the game.

At the end, there were two Powertrip players left, one in the snake and one in the ladder, against one american, also in the ladder. The american bunkered the Powertrip ladder guy cleanly. As he was going for the flag he asked the judge to check him, as he'd taken a hit when he bunkered the ladder. The judge did not call him neutral during this as he stopped and asked for the check. I was standing right over the Powertrip guy at this time. Had the judge called the american neutral, I would have kept him from moving. The judge called the american clean, he grabbed the flag and started back to his flag station, apparantly not knowing there was one remaining Powertrip player. Powertrip shot the remaining american, then went and pulled the other teams flag.

Well, that sucks. No controversy. I did wonder about the refs checking him at Powertrip's start and the Powertrip player advancing--but hey, if he asked to be checked, you guys got it right.
So why weren't you working the the grandstand 50 on the NPPL field on Sunday? :D
