i think its something to do with the students union and then you will be able to set up one of those 'groups/societies' im sure NUS give you funding aswell or something of the likes.

You'll need to speak to your University SU Sports/Society officer to organise setting one up. Although to do so you need to have at least 10 people comitted and ready to pay and start straight away. You'll also need to have a full plan including finances, training, tournaments etc....

Although you may have to settle with being registered as a University Society. For it to be a sport, it has to be on the official BUCS league, which needs at least 8 individual universities to register, which the UK doesn't quite have. We potentially could, but there's not really much point in a way, just because the travelling involved to move teams to home/away fixtures (unless the whole league was done at bricket wood or something...), so using NSPL/CPPL/KOTH/SUPER5s is a lot easier

Even if you get lucky and the uni accepts it, my team's funding falls short of about £250 a year. :/ In the last 2 years all we've acquired are some Ion XEs and 5 bunkers :/ it's a long slow process unless you're willing to heavily invest yourself as my team has.

Despite this, there are several universities with paintball teams (although not all of these may be active)
Portsmouth, Leicester and my squad (University of Gloucestershire) all competed in Proto's KOTH league last season

There's also Southampton (i think have one), Birmingham, Plymouth, London City Uni, lancaster. So there are plenty out there, it's just a case of being able to organise them all...

I thought a BUCS league required 20+ teams, if its only 8 then setting up a BUCS league shouldn't be so hard for anyone wanting to do it.

With setting up society it may be better to have normal rental days for members aswell to get people without there own kit registered, when i set up my soc at lancaster I was the only one with my own gear and after a year another 8 had bought their own, not bad for a bunch of students all in their overdrafts

Dundee Uni just set theirs up, working quite well. They attend our walk ons and are coming to D10 and Calll to Duty 2 games so far.

One of our guys also runs the Edinburgh Uni Club and I know Aberdeen have theirs that often make a wee venture out to NvS.

Last time I spoke to the guy that runs the dundee club they had set up a forum for the uni teams (im not sure which ones) to chat to each other. I'll send this thread to him tonight when I get home hopefully he will come in with some specific advice.

Hey there, I´m Megatron, president of the Dundee University Paintball Society :D

Setting up a society is pretty easy, the student union will give you support as long as you play the words right...make sure you don´t say "sport" when setting up a society, as they will point you to the sports union...also, think what this will bring to the SU! After 1 year, you´ll be able to apply for the sport union...that´s when you tell them paintball is a sport. The way we are thinking of running it is a club and a society...the sports side will try and compete, the society will be a gateway for new comers. The final goal is to set up our own reball field...so the goal is to raise 3 grand. In any case, Edinburgh have already got theirs set up...give Jamie a shout!
