Well, we recently played in a tournament (not naming where) and I have to say that during one game a player on the opposite side was 'f' ing and blinding so much after he had shot out one of my team that I had to say to the Marshall that this was not on....

Logic dictates that if you are searing an carrying on most sense and sensibility has been left behind...

Personally I can not tolerate this on the field and I strongly believe that if we want to make this game we love so much a world recognised sport then we have to put a stop to this right now....

Maybe it is just me, but other tourneys I have played in the past the marshal’s would pull you out if you swearing badly... I think this should be the case now.

If players can not show some self control when playing then penalise them..

Now don't get me wrong, we all get irate but if we are going to grow this sport into something bigger than what we have then I believe that this is a good starting point..

maybe I am now old (fashioned too) but hey, a limited vocabulary should be left off of the field.

Rant over....:D

But what do you the players think....

Paintball is an intense sport, played by, on the whole, a younger portion of the population. In the heat of a game bad language can slip out.

Not that I am a potty mouth, but obscenities have become a part of every day language these days. To a lot of people they do not have any shock value at all.

People get excited, I will admit to the odd "umpire check his bloomin' pack". Before we call for bans or heavy censorship, lets use common sense.

Footballers swear, TV has learnt not to point directional microphones at the players. It is still a mainstream sport.

Thus ends todays lesson.

Well, like some of the others said, it happens. Not only in paintball, but in most other sports.
But I do think there is a line somewhere. When you get hit, I think it's okay to softly(ish) mutter 'sh*t' to yourself, but hurling all sorts of obscenities at the other team or the marshalls is dead wrong.

i wouldnt really say it was the language that was the issue, as ian says the odd f**k it here and there dont really shock/bother most people nowadays - i must admit i swear like a f**kin trooper.. been brought up on tarantino movies thats my excuse ;) :D
the main problem tho is the attitude, when people are being aggresive or violent they do tend to hurl profanities etc, but it is the demenour that is the main problem.
so imho we dont need to fret over the odd swearword - even a bit of smack talk on field can be quite amusing and add to the game. but crack down more heavily on dummy spitting and agression towards players/marshalls..

Swearing...

It does happen and in an extreme sport a certain amount can be tolerated.

BUT, if someone is excessive they should get a warning... and if they persist they should be 1-4-1'd in my opinion.

I don't mind the odd outburst when someone does something stupid etc. but people that shout down the line 'get out you £$%^ing £$%^er, I £$%^ing shot you, you £$%^er' should be removed from the field. There is no need or excuse for that kind of behaviour in my opinion.

Aggressive behaviour towards marshalls should not be tolerated. Nor should physical violence (or threats of).

Swearing

I have been trying to give up for the last year it's a bad now as when I worked at the solicitors the diffrence is I don't have to inhale 13 chain smokers old smoke.:D

Adrenaline is to blame if you bash your self with a hammer we've all done it we swear.

Adrenaline.

When your all hyped up pasions and tempers run high. I know don't get too close if I have been pointed blanked the air turns blue or I am kicking some thing not a pretty site.

As Jim says it's the attitude and body language that acompanys the sewaring thats the problem.

Many sports "reconized" are agressive boxing and wresting boxing no swearing as such but pre game hype and potty mouth. wresting was always that much rawer and some coourfull language flew as much as the players. Look at tennis and some of the language and strops macenro aggerie I am not a tennis fan but have been made to watch on occasion and you rember the personality for the strops not cause you sit there geting neck ache wathing a little ball been hit from end to end.

So swearing I will and do do, I would like to stop I don't think it's personally becoming but this is a personal thing. I don't drink pints either :)

Potty mouth, over agression is a problem and I don't think it should be tollerated. The likes of La Soya shouting crawl maggot add to the atmospher but when do you ever here the russians do it?

sparklie if I put 10p in for every time I've sworne since I got into paintball I would be trotting round on blakniks!!!!

mew terrbly sad thought (
it's a girl thing a la carrie sex in the city very nice really expencive completely impracticle sexy shoes. Drool)

Rugby is an extremely aggressive adrenaline packed sport but you won't see the overuse of swearing in it.

Why?

Because if they do players get penalised. They soon learn not to swear on the field :D

I don't think we could ever eradicate swearing on the field (I know I'd have to give up if it was banned) but I agree it's down to the attitude behind it and where it's directed.

Example 1. I got taken out being stupid a few months ago, and at the same time my dodgy leg decided to give in rather painfully. I swore constantly and inventively all the time I was leaving the field & for a few more minutes in the dead zone. However, this was directed at me & me only (and my leg of course), and was heard only by people withing about a 2 yard radius round me.
Example 2. A rather exciting game I watched recently, but it was clear that one team was superior & would win it well within time unless they had a total disaster. A player on the winning team thought he had shot a member of the opposition, & started shouting as loudly and aggressively as he could "get the f*** out of there you w*****, marshall, get the f***** out, get your arse over there marshall & f******get him out" etc on & on. As it happens the marshall was on the player, who hadn't been eliminated at all.

OK the first incident is probably understandable, but the second I would consider as just attempted intimidation of the opposing player and probably the marshall as well.
