Ok,

I tried to stip an Impulse in the hopes of fully understanding its workings, as well as being able to clean the little bugger fully (I'm a bit anal with keeping things clean).

I was missing a 5mm Alan key so went and bought some... turns out that the key I need is not Imperial or Metric (I bought 2 sets of keys).

What size key do I need or is there a special set of keys for the Impulse?

Thanks in advance,
Hobo

Most of them... I have taken the grip frame off, as well as the eye. Other than that cant get anything else off.

The bolts around the hammer assembly, and on the reg.

Those are blanking plugs, and generally shouldn't be removed. If you do remove them, you'll need loctite to put them back in otherwise they'll leak. If you are really sure you want them out, I think it's a 3/16" key, but it may take some heating to soften the loctite holding them in place.

Once you have got the grip frame off (1/8" key) and the eye cover (0.050" key) you can remove the ram with a monkey wrench across the flats at the back (use a rag between the wrench and the ram chamber otherwise it'll get all scratched up) and the volumiser on the front (usually just by hand.) The plug in the back of the ram can be removed with a 3/16" key (or was it 5/32"?), and if you need to dismantle the ram further you'll need to soften the loctite holding the hammer to the ram shaft and unscrew it (the ramshaft has a 1/8" socket in the back to make this possible.)

This much from memory. There is lots of useful info at http://www.zdspb.com too.

You are a lifesaver, I was on the verge of jumping out the window... (4th floor as well)

The URL you gave me is exactly what I need since it walks through stripping the marker and general maintinance which is exactly what I am after.

WOOT, a nice clean marker is on its way :D

Looks like a Voodoo gas-thru grip, not a reg. It should unscrew by hand from the reg mount block. Then there is a screw with a hole down the middle which holds the reg mount block to the underside of the body. The bullet-shaped bit on the front is just a volume chamber, it should also unscrew by hand.

The solenoid is clamped to the underside of the body with two TINY screws. There is a gasket between the solenoid and the body, don't lose it. When mounting the solenoid again, be very careful not to overtighten the screws, the fine threads in the body can strip out easily.

Got it, thanks...

I now have the 'Noid and Voodoo off, the feedneck is still on, but thats not an issue.
There are 2 bolts still in. One in the front and one at the back... You said not to take these off. Which is fine. But can the marker now be cleaned with water or is there something that can go wrong by doing this/do I need to take these out?

Thanks for all the help

EDIT: Bolts are under and right of the Hammer assem, and under and left of the volumizer
EDIT 2: Dont worry, its done now... leaving it all to dry before I lube it up and put it all back together

The feedneck is loctited in, and even with heat it's almost impossible to remove without damaging it (not a problem if you're installing a new one but otherwise you don't want to do it.)

If you're dunking the whole body in water for a really thorough clean (not that I'd recommend that), then you can remove the plugs at front and back, but remember you'll need loctite to seal them back in afterwards. If you do remove them, there should be a gauze filter inside the tube which will slide out (it may need a pointed implement to get a grip on it.) The tiny screw about 2/3 of the way along the side of the body on the same side should never be touched, it's basically impossible to get it out without wrecking it and it's just plugging the outside of the air transfer passage leading to the solenoid.

The last thing not mentioned is the valve body. To get this out remove the big screw on the underside of the body, and (this is important) push the valve body out through the BACK of the body, not the front. Reinsert it from the back as well, since there's a good chance of the o-rings getting damaged if you take it out/put it in through the front.

I think that's about everything you could need to know about it :)

Thanks, I had removed the valve body thanks to the link you posted.

I decided against removing the screws, since they are VERY tight and my alan keys dont fit. I have however washed everything, I was worried mostly about electronics. But since all those are removed it should (I hope) be fine.

It is now thoroughly clean I feel happier. Cant stand a dirty marker, also I now know how to strip the bugger after a game :D

thanks again Rabies you have been a great help
