I need to alter the velocity in my Sterling and have a spring kit. Anyone know how to do this? I know how to change the springs but should it be softer valve/harder main or what?

That would kinda depend on which way you'd like to turn the velocity, up or down. If you'd like higher velocity, use a harder main spring. If you'd like lower velocity use a lighter main spring

Yeah, you should be able to lower it just by changing out the main spring. Or you could even clip the old one if you were so inclined.

Small changes assuming you are going upwards are meant to be changed by using shims (washers in the hammer assembly) however you are better served using too strong springs and then clipping them down to suit. Also a Sterling should be sprung so that when you have no gas it will still cock...a thing to try and something I did is to use a front spring (long one) in the back section as I could never get the right consistency with the hardest back (short) spring. remember if you are using CO2 then you must use a syphon tube and if you have the so called summer valve dump it and use the winter one, difference between the two is one is solid and one has a small expansion area around the gas through point, the solid one is the winter valve. Same thing will apply with the valves if you are using compressed air.

shims are the easiest way to get small adjustments on pump markers without a dialer....never really fiddled with a stirling tho....the only one i used was perfect and i didnt have to adjust it

wouldnt mind getting hold of one of the new ones tho they look smart!
i always get the urge to play pump at this time of year!

The latest guns have a new part that will allow velocity adjustment via a long allen key through the pickup assembly. You would need though a new pump grip, a new pick up assembly and the velocity adjuster and allen key. So it may not be the cheapest way, but as has been suggested you can alter it by lengthening and shortening the spring. If you need any spare springs or whatever get Alex to pick you some up next time hes over here at Powerball.
