Small changes assuming you are going upwards are meant to be changed by using shims (washers in the hammer assembly) however you are better served using too strong springs and then clipping them down to suit. Also a Sterling should be sprung so that when you have no gas it will still cock...a thing to try and something I did is to use a front spring (long one) in the back section as I could never get the right consistency with the hardest back (short) spring. remember if you are using CO2 then you must use a syphon tube and if you have the so called summer valve dump it and use the winter one, difference between the two is one is solid and one has a small expansion area around the gas through point, the solid one is the winter valve. Same thing will apply with the valves if you are using compressed air.
