Mooching round the 50, with the flag
I'm just getting back into things after I quit a few years ago (just after the electro's started coming out) and I have a pretty general question probably one that been asked many times and is bound to stir up a lot of differing opinions.

I've been looking around at the classfied ad's (even bought a couple of bits) but the emphasis on most of the markers for sale seems to be "...shoots ropes of paint..." have things come down to the simple rule of letting off hundreds of balls per minute in the vague hope that by the law of averages we'll hit someone eventually?

Yes, I'm a bit of an old git, I started playing with a splatmaster, 10 shot tubes and Co2 caplets on customer days but it seems where the technology of markers, loaders etc has evolved in the extreme, the actual 'sport' aspect has lost it's way? Or have I missed something?

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed playing again but get the feeling there is a 'darker side'.....

part of playing tournament paintball these days relies on the method of shooting lanes of paint in order to prevent the opposition moving to bunkers. I guess if i marker can shoot 15 bps easily (ie a rope of paint) that makes the oppositions move much harder to pull off and hence makes that marker quite an attractive purchase.

plus faster = better, duh ;) :)
most electros these days will shoot faster than you can pull the trigger anyways

tactics and team work stillplay a major part of the game however it now more or less is about containment of their team, while moving your team to eliminate.

first shot accuracy and so on is still vitally important however if you are only coming back into the game i am assuming you have little or no experience of the more tourney orientated side of things? smaller fields, faster gameplay.

and people like to shoot sh*tloads of paint cus it is fun!!

If you don't like the sound of that, (laying down paint lanes etc), join us in scenario (woodsball) paintball, where accuracy, stealth, tactics and still having paint to shoot 10, 15, 20 mins (even 7 hours) into the game. Sure, there are still lots of scenario players with extremely fast markers, but 1 shot on target from you, ends their game.:D

I've been away from it for some time, played a few tourneys years ago, but I see everyones point and they are well made. I've currently got an stock IR3 and yep, shooting a sh!tload of paint is fun unless you're getting hit by it.
