Try several markers beforehand otherwise the first one won't be your first for long! They are a vet personal thing so find the ones that suit you as a player and then just decide if your buying new or second hand. Plenty of good options out there.

If £200 is your budget that's probably going to be one of the few markers available to you. Prices go onwards and upwards but the return on that money diminishes as markers get dearer. If you can raise more funds and get towards an Axe I suspect many on here will advise you on that or perhaps the mini. The etek 4 is also highly regarded in that price range which also includes the proto reflex. I will leave someone else to comment on the suitability of the Proto Rail as I have not owned or used one.

Axes have been going for £200-230 that ive seen lately (which is great!) Cant really comment on proto's the only guy that has one at the site i go to spends more time fixing it than he does playing... Getting stuff new is all well and good but then you have to break in the marker etc etc i had problem after problem with a brand new phenom whereas my mate who got his second hand had no problems. I just sold the damn thing and got a used Ego, never looked back.

People on my team have axes, the only problem ive seen is the stock barrel isnt the best but other than that it fires beautifully and none of them have ever had any problems with it at all, really easy to maintain after a days play too.

I wouldn't buy new, look around for a second hand geo would be my suggestion, you can pick up a good condition geo 1+ for about 250 or if you want to spend more then a 2.1 for around 350-400

personally im not a huge fan of dye guns (probable from the people on my team) but 2nd hand eclipse guns generally rock and theres almost always a tech at every event. personally i have and axe and love it. I also had a mini before which was totally brilliant especially for the price i paid and that it was only meant to be an in between marker I kind of wish i still had it.

I would reccomend a mini for a starter marker but it has one downfall which is the ASA. besides that it rocks and in fact i have just got my friend who has just started one for her.

Hope this helps

In terms of the mini (sorry to walk over the post above) i had one and had to send it back twice within 5 months, i found it tempermentitive and didn't think its performance was at all close to other guns that can be bought second hand for the same price, in fact i detested my mini and regret wasting the money i spent on it.
