Standardize..standardize...please

Gudmann

huh ?
I just bought a Shocktech on/off bottomline...fine peace of gear...made to slide a dove tail drop-forward into it.

Here's a pic :

It seems the grooves are too deep too fit most drops, they seem to be a bit wider than the groove on this bottomline adapter.

I've tried a short eclipse drop, a system X web drop and a WGP Flame drop. They just cant get in there....I've got a Shocktech drop too, that I loaned a friend...just swapped the flame drop with him...the Shocktech better fit when he returns it.

And what about all the types of screws...none of the screws that come with those three drops I have tried have the same allen key size. Some have a sunken cone shaped head, some not.

The screws on the System-X are not the same width for the grip frame and for the bottomline adapter...those are slightly narrower than the standard two-hole screws, but with the same threads..so they seemed to fit, until I had screwed them a bit in and the kept waddling about...but the thing is, they have a sunken coned shaped head that is made to fit the grip frame end of the bottom line. I don't know of a bottom line adapter with coned holes.

So you guys who design and manufacture these beautiful things...please standardise on everything....

....especially all those things that should fit each other.....

....a dove tail drop should fit in all dove tail adapers...

...all screws should have the same shaped heads and use same size allen keys....

*Start Rant* Allen keys (as most people on this board 'cos i post about them often enough!) p*ss me off no end! Especially when you have several million kicking about and u don't know which are metric and which are imperial and which ones are which size.... OOoooo that annoys me! *Rant Over*

Shocktech !!!

My thoughts are at this time that it's Shocktech that make their bottomline adapter in a way that only fits their rather narrow drop forward. Most drops are a bit thicker.

Pic of the Shocktech drop

That is a mistake if they think they sell more goods that way...any Shocktech guys here...please take note (and other manufacturers as well, if this applies to them).

You will sell more of your stuff if people can be sure it fits all their pre-existing equipment and all future add ons they might buy.....You do not want to lock people in a "Shocktech only" situation...you'll end up alienating most people that buy one of your pieces and find it doesn't fit any other. For one I don't think I'll buy much more from you now!!!! Expect maybe the other guys aren't any better ????

Your drop looks nice...just machine the bottomline adapter a bit shallower so the dovetail grooves on the drop slide just so into the adapter and the groove above that on the drop touches the top of the apapter....you'll figure it out :)

All drops are supposed to be screwed on a grip frame...

All dovetail adapters/cradles should fit all drops with a dovetail end.

All regular bottomline adapters are supposed to be screwed on a grip frame or on the end of a drop with the same type of screws...

It's not complicated....get it right !!!!

Does anyone else have stories of equipment not fitting together, when they should ????
