Spyder Xtra low fps :(

Ok, having played the academy with low fps (230-240), even with the adjuster dialed all the way in, I'm asking for suggestions on what it could be.

As far as I know, I have a stock Spyder Xtra, running CO2

The CO2 has anti-syphon, and I'd put a new o-ring on it in the morning cos there was a split on it, but that only improved it by about 5fps

Someone called Matt gave me a stronger spring to put in the back, but that only gave me a 10fps improvement (Thanks Matt!)

Someone else said that Spyders tend to "warm up" and spike later on, but that never happened for me :(

My steel hose has a tiny kink in it, and the valve needs a LOT of effort to turn it completely off - would either of those things be causing it?

I live 15mins from Smart Parts so if there's an easy fix that can be bought I'll do it! :D:D:D

If the valve takes a lot of effort, it could be that, it should only need a firm finger and thumb grip to turn. If the stiffer spring didn't help much, then it's probably either the flow being restricted, or bad o-rings, or not enough oil. Check all the o-rings on the bolt and hammer for breaks or nicks, and make soure they're the right type (i can't remember the details of spyder o-rings, but piranahas for example don't work with a bottle o-ring on the hammer, even though they can be made to fit). Check the manual for which o-rings you need and where. When you put it back together put a drop of oil on each o-ring, and also put a few drops in the ASA before you screw the tank in. If that doesn't help, then it's moat likely a gas flow problem, and the CO2 valve and kinked hose are both possible culprits. If you get a chance to try a different marker over the chrono with your bottle, that will tell you if the valve is causing problems.

Well Thank god for that!

So yours was doing that also on Sunday? I was going to come find you and see buy forgot, what with having to take mugshots of everyone and stuff.

I'm going to buy a spring kit at some point and give that a go... but the kinked hose is worth looking at... in my case anyway.

Philip - I made a bet with Revoss that you'd be in the first 5 replies and I'm glad you obliged! :D

TL - so do you agree with Rabies that I should look into the bottle valve?

Yes actually you should use a weaker spring, not a stronger one. My friend had a tl with the same problem, but he bought a spring kit and tried them all out. If that doesn't work borrow someonelse's tank and try it if you think your tank is the problem, doubt it though.

Hang on now... weaker main spring, or weaker valve spring?

The spring kits from Planet only contain 4 main springs... no valve springs in sight. Is this the right kit to get or not?

I'm a bit confused over how a weaker main spring will give me higher FPS...

Weaker Valve spring - so the resistance to the hammer hitting the valve is lowered.
Stronger Main spring - increases the hammer's velocity letting more gas in the valve, increasing velocity.

Combine the two and Voila!

P.s You not coming to the Monkey Love training;) this Saturday?
