I was wondering if anyone here has shot a Spyder Fenix yet. As i am looking to get a new marker and thought this one might fit into my budget well. So any comment or thoughts about this gun would be appreciated.

Yup, I have and I have to say Iwas very impressed.

Its about the most solid spyder I've seen and the new board is great, real easy to use and seems faster than the old ones.

Yeah it's not that gentle on real brittle paint, but then no blowback gun really is.

I would have a look at it for sure. The other option with be a Pirrahna which can be had for similar price, including with an eye now for not much more if you can stretch to it.

Heed my warning...

I have my own fenix, and i have to warn you not to get it unless ur willing to upgrade the hell out of it. The trigger is solid, but not adjustabgle, which makes it real hard to get a decent BPS on it. The clmap feed neck is useful, as all hopper and fit on, but the accuracy if you can shoot at high speed (which requires ALOT of practice) is cr@p. It doesnt seem to chop that many balls with a 12V revvies tho. If you really want a gun, and its the only one in your budget then go for it. Its acceptable, but dont expect to be able to play with angels and timmy and enjoy yourself. For the money its good value tho. I've had mine since the beginning of March and im already (desperately) moving up to a (non e-class) orracle :D It more worth it saving a bit more and getting a cocker and other... respectable guns. Its also as loud as $$&# and has massive kick. Looks over these quite massive faults and its a fine marker.

The trigger pull length is adustable on the I have, the pull strentgh isn't as it rides on teh switch, just like every other spyder though.

I thought it would have a lot of kick when I shot it without air but I played a tournament with it instead of my timmy and yeah it's not as stable, but then it's 1/3 the price :) and I wasn't outgunned that often.

As for being loud - yeah, it is :) but again sypders are and it isn't as loud as some.

I liked it anyway :p but the Pirahna is a good alternative, and to me the eye tips it

Spyders really are a "Pick'n'Mix" effort.

I've found that the the set-up I now use (see signature) is the best so far...I haven't had chance to fuly test the warp on it yet, but that's only there 'cos the Sonix is a left hand feed and I'm left handed.....I know it sounds funny to say but the sonix is the best Spyder body out of the 3 i've used (Sonix, Xtra and Electra) and accuracy...well, you can't say accuracy is the marker really can you? I use a turbulence bolt and a 12" Tear-drop smart parts and accuracy is tip-top.

Have you read WPG 2004? The fenix is tipped as a pretty good marker. But to give a nod to kupokweh's message, I'd say that stock Spyders need a bit of tinkering and upgrading before you get the marker you really want.....but then again, that's why I love 'em so much ;)

Yeah but changing the pull weight of the switch is a very straightforward mod - stock spyder switch weight is 250g, but it's easy to get down to 30g (or as low as you want but I think this is optimal).

You still have that 'mouse click' to some extent but then it ain't an optical trigger. I gotta say I'm happy with Flash.

Hey Nik

The mod is desribed in detail at

http://www.spyderea.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7990

and there's more discussion on it at

http://www.kingman.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=333489&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

Basically you knock the trigger pins out from the frame from the right hand side, remove the trigger, take the 5 pin connector off the board, remove everything through the front, remove the case from the switch, and bend two of the posts to slacken the spring pressure.

Hope it helps - it really is very easy - it must be for me to be abloe to do it!!!

Give me a shout if you need further help
