I can see this is a topic which has been discussed in terms of spray painting markers before but not for a while. Just wondering if anyone else has experimented with spray painting any gear whatsover?

I myself have had my Proto Axis mask sprayed with a custom made paint which was color matched with my Purple Proto Rail. Absolutely adore the thing, the results are great and I know that my mask is now pretty damn unique (maybe the only Purple Proto Axis in the world?!) Let me know what you think and share any work you have done/liked yourself :)

Hi,

Great job, looks very special.

We tried spray painting kit in the mid 90's. The problem has always been obtaining a good enough key on the plastic so when hit by a ball the spray paint does not flake and peel. Lacquer does seem to help. But we never got it to last.

You said it was sprayed with a custom paint, is this flexible or has any other properties that will help it stay in place. ?

Give us an update once you have played with it a few games and we'll see if the custom paint job holds..

Not trying to knock your work, as its excellent, just wanted to point out a pitfall we have with paint and plastic.

Regards,
Colin.

Yeah that was what I was worried about at first, however I had a friend who works for a trade paint company and he reassured me it would be ok.

I'm not too sure about the type of paint it is but I know the process was to cover it in a white primer (two layers) then spray the purple on (maybe another 2 or just the 1) then to use a paint lacquer to both seal it and give it a sheen.

I have already used the mask for four days of play now and took way too many gog hits to count (I play at a woods field where they do not count so i'm constantly scouting due to it) yet no signs of wear whatsoever on the main frame. Think the reason its lasting so far is that the lens frame section I sprayed is a solid plastic rather than the mask itself which is a softer rubber. Maybe if i'd have sprayed that it would crack as it flexes.

Actually just to add to that last post the only spots where the paint has come off is on the sides where the straps lock in as they have to twist against the plastic, however it just means that once the lens is locked in you can't see it anyway :) Not sure if that makes sense if you've not used a proto mask but I may put update photos on another time.

Got any pics of attempts you've made before niloc?

No pics from when we tried it. We did build a predator mask about a set of old site goggles and sprayed that up.

It lasted some time - but was not used that often.

Colin

a purple helmet. hardly unique.
What's your problem mate? If you know somebody else with a purple Proto Axis show me a picture?

And @niloc65 that predator mask looks awesome, I love little things like that which are completely unique.

We'll see how the goggles hold up, i'm planning on switching to either the new VIO's or HK Army Goggles next year either way so no worries with me.
