I was just wondering whether any efforts has been made by the pro teams/tourneys to secure sponsorship from outside the industry?
There are loads of teams sponsored by the companies directly involved in paintball ( markers, paint and gear manufacturers ), but has anyone looked to other brands?
I paraglide and know that the free flight scene has a lot of similarities to paintball - small dedicated following, no mainstream media coverage ( yet ), considered an extreme sport...
And yet there are individual pilots who have gained sponsorship from Red Bull ( the energy drinks people ).
It seems to me that youth and/or sport brands like Red Bull, Nike?, Ministry of Sound/record label whatever, may well be interested in the scene and may want to throw some money in.
Naturally it's all about brand fit and exposure for the sponsors, but with the recent TV coverage, the time might be right to look to pastures new for sponsorship.
What do you think?
